Watched this 25min tour of the Geneva motor show earlier and it struck me how pretty much every car seems to be either electric or hybrid. Huge push by the manufacturers this year. Like the look of the polestar.
I gave up after ten minutes of being assaulted by ugly cars.
It would have to be sails though as the "bunker fuel" used by big ships is very pollutingIf we really want to save the planet we have to give up air travel and go back to the days of the ocean liner which is far less poluting than a plane.
Still a ship with several 1000 passangers plus some cargo is no where near as polluting as a plane running on heavy fuel or not.It would have to be sails though as the "bunker fuel" used by big ships is very polluting
You sure?Still a ship with several 1000 passangers plus some cargo is no where near as polluting as a plane running on heavy fuel or not.
Yes i agree with most of that and more needs to be done and is, in 2020 there is going to be a world wide cap on sulphur emissions from ships reducing the content in fuel from 3% to 0.5% or lower in europe there is already a 0.001% cap on fuel sulphur and has been for more than 10 years, and even china and america are now that low too. Ship scrappage is an area which really needs worked on admitadly. But he dose neglect the fact that 90% of the worlds freight is carried by sea. http://www.ics-shipping.org/shipping-facts/shipping-and-world-trade
For short haul diesel IC prop planes which could then have emission controls were suggested as being more suited for flying within countries leaving the higher flying jets for long haul.A big issue to get over is the time difference too, fly across the Atlantic in 8 hours, how long would you be looking for a crossing by ship? Travel to landlocked countries? It feels like it would be a major step back in time and I reckon there'll be some version of environmentally friendly aircraft before travelling by ship becomes the norm again.
Electric Mercedes
Actually not so silly. The Ford Escape hybrid used 250 NiMH "D" cellsThat was a brilliant send-up. Been out for ages now though.
