Run a genny on red or mains gas and capture the heat for the house.

Would probably work out if you were using the generator to charge your electric car. May as well just burn the fuel directly if you want heat though.
Just as a comparison, with zero FiT, current lifetime cost of energy generated from solar works out at ~9p/kWh for a home setup. BUT it only makes sense to call it 9p if you can actually use all of your kWhs. If you can use them in a useful way, which means some kind of storage, they are cheap kWhs.
