Yeah, thats it.
Problem is, all these links to virus scan etc files are great, but everytime i click on one it says page cannot be opened - but the internet is working ok.

Paul, BTinternet has a 20Mb attachment limit, I could send the main program as one and maybe split the update into two?

Should be able to, depends if it blocks the well known AV sites though, some of them do. Well worth a try though and I can always send the update if necessary.

you might be able to work in safe mode, some of these virus lurk in parts of the registry that doesn't come to life in said mode........

Paul I got an internet security package off AVG, it's only about 200Kb should do nicely, PM me your email!!

Try starting firefox in safe mode, that will disable any add ons that are installed, also disable javascript, you may then be able to download an av prog. you might also try the online scan here

Trojan (horse) - something that masquerades itself as something else i.e a virus that pretends it's a useful program.
I take it Avira's doing it's stuff then?

In my mind i have some speckky geek with no friends sending out viruses to screw peoples computers. These people must be sought out and stamped upon.

It's called the "computer misuse act" but sadly never really gets acted upon
