When i type in a search word - the results show ok, but every site listing beneath redirects you to 'Jump' some sort of ad/hosting page. Yahoo does it as well - any different search term.

Just spent the last god knows how many hours cleaning an absolutely riddled laptop, she clicked 'run' when a dialog box appeared after she visited an extremely dodgy site!

If you are clicking on results and being redirected to advertising sites chances are it's a virus of some sort. Have you got an up to date virus scanner you can use? Otherwise I'm sure we can suggest some good ones that run from the net.

for antivirus i use avg free, its good enough

Microsoft one isn't a bad one to start with. http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx If it doesn't let you download and run the thing (some viruses don't like you to do that) try scrolling down the page and doing an online scan.

(That's a removal tool not virus protection - you'll need the AVG afterwards http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition or the avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html).

I can vote for Avira , doesn't slow your system down like AVG does and seems to pick everything up, it certainly worked wonders on that laptop .
Also, run malwarebytes too, it's another freebie but works well as is Spybot search and destroy.
Between them they'll clean pretty much everything.

But to get you could try this it seemed to work for others:

1)CWShredder.exe (download)http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/personal/CWShredder/

2) Empty all temp folders

a) (c:\doc&set\%userprofile\Local settings\temp)

b) (c:\doc&set\%userprofile\Local settings\temporary internet files and all subfolers, ie content.IEX)

c) (c:\winnt\temp, c:\windows\temp)

d) (did I miss any?)

3) Close all Browsers of all kinds

4) Run Spybot or Adware 6

5) REMOVE ALL

6) Run CWShredder

7) Reboot (DO NOT OPEN A WEB BROWSER)

I must say some of the steps seem to be irrelevent IMHO, but wont do any harm.

Your not alone as there are lots of people out there with the same problem.

Avira's 15.7 meg and the latest update definitions are another 23. I have both on my hard drive if they're any use.
