About 10 years back I went to look at a Kat 750 Mk2 (the pop-up headlamp version, thought it'd look good alongside the TVR and Lotus) in Bury: £750 for a 750. Looked at it from every angle, started it up, guy said take it round the block. Tyres were narrower than my mountain bike's, wooden brakes, lots of revs and went nowhere fast. Couldn't bring myself to like it, and it did nothing better than my modern 1300 Honda. Shame, because I'd always wanted one yet couldn't make myself like it. They always say never meet your heroes. Even more of a shame: £750 then is more like £4500 now
It would be nice to think that some of the great car shapes could be brought back with modern tech, but re-engineering them to keep up with crash legislation would be practically impossible. Hell, even modern cars keep on getting bigger outside but smaller inside because of all the padding...
Retro power are building a Jag with a modern engine and running gear, looks a good project
