Who would want to be a tradesman in this country with attitudes like this.

Waste disposal is the bain of my life and a little bit of scrap isn't gonna ease that. Costs a fortune to remove Rubbish these days

Exactly. The guy will turn up to a cleared and hoovered area, will get cups of tea all day and his invoice paid as soon as he’s emailed it. In return he’ll leave us with a nice neat job and all the rubbish removed. If he makes a few quid on the tank, good for him, I honestly wouldn’t know what to do with it.

Had a chap message yesterday. Trim 4 doors after carpet fitting

Despite me being done for the year I offered to pop down today to help him out and told him the price.

He tried to barter for a cash price.

Still haven't bothered responding.

It's customers who ask for a quote.
Once they've got it they then tell me they want to provide materials and then look surprised when I tell them il requote for the works or undertake on a day rate.

My margin on materials helps cover the unexpected that will always arise.

I also add in that delays caused by missing or incorrect materials would be charged at the standard day rate

Good point. Got caught out on that one on the last Reno. Twice the egit ordered the wrong size doors. :/

I had one who ordered cheap and nasty radiator valves despite showing him what to get, 2 days to stop them all leaking

5.00 for a hot water tank minus the sludge charge when weigh in

if its a closed cell insulation the price varies

weighed in a stainless steel tank less price as the insulation disposal gone through the roof due to being closed cell insulation as it dosnt degrade

Have you not seen those talented guys who get old copper cylinders and cut them up to make copper animals etc. Some very clever people. There was one on the scrap programme a while back who used them. Cut them with a plasma cutter. Far more artistic talent than me .

one thing with cylinder sludge you dont know whats in

legionaires can be within it

so you get a tank rip all of the composite insulation off of it where does that go as its a waste product that dosnt degrade
then you have to cut the top off and the bottom off
then you have to check the thickness of the sheet of copper or stainless steel as it can be much thinner in places

before use it has to be cleaned

nowadays its not worth it

its either price waste removal or let the customer get rid of there rubbish and its getting worse

as goes for scrap in emersion heaters and copper piping really not worth the 10-15.00 the plastic and the rest of the rubbish removal really makes it not worth removing the junk

Non-ferrous scrap is at an all time high this past few months. There's never been a better time to get rid of it.

What was leaking on them?
I just had to swap some nearly new leaky rad valves I fitted in the toiletI can't remember what make they were but probably came with the rad so cheap crap I suppose.
I fitted some new Drayton ones that seem OK.

I’m just a thick metal worker and get jealous sometimes

I had a plumber in under pressure from mrs
So I had to do two weeks work ( machine shop foreman) to pay for plumber for day and a half and think to myself the old cylinder etc will soften the blow. It’s gone when I get in and I redo some of the crap work
Unfortunately I’m too thick to be a plumber or wire tugger and must pay the price .

Take four doors off, lug them downstairs and outside to avoid mess on the new carpet, out with a handsaw and a plane etc etc. A proper price would get up towards three figures.

If the customer wanted to dispose of the rubbish they could keep it all, however if they wanted to keep the scrap then a charge for waste disposal would be added to the bill

^^ aye scrap is making a comeback, dropped off a trailer load today, to get it out of the way before the new year. Just over 200kg mixed steel, I'd said to a mate, if I get a decent bottle of red out of it I'll be happy.... got 47 euros, so well happy with that, 3 decent bottles then, bonus and I got rid of that pile that's been peeing me off for a while.............

When I weighed my old copper cylinder in a few years ago, I did go back in to ask if the receipt and payment was correct - I'd never been in the hundreds before!
