Would this annoy a plumber/ch engineer

I have a great builder and a great plumber. Very pleased with both. They also both think a bit like me which helps. The builder has been helping us with renovation of a barn - discuss what we need to do next, who is getting the bits and where from (sometimes me, sometimes him) and it all seems to work well. Plumber the same, but he supplies more of the parts as I know less about whats needed there. They turn up when they say they will and we pay them when they invoice. I pay them both a day rate for the sorts of jobs they have been doing and neither take the ****.

Having trouble with a reliable sparky as some will see from my threads on here. Say they will quote and dont, say they will turn up and dont, apprentice is left unchecked and fits light switches where isolators are needed, wreck everything in the path of running a wire. That jobs done now, the unquoted job is still not done and I need to find someone reliable because they arent all the same (as shown by the sparks on here who all seem keen to do a proper job!)

Id not bother, go buy a lawn mower and set yourself up as a gardner, or cleaner. Weve a cleaner in our village self employed wants 18.50 an hour! Something is wrong somewhere!

Out of that she's got fuel -4800 consumables -2000
and tools -800-1500
vehicle maintenance. -800
Then tax.

PAYE it would be a decent wage.SE not so much.

Given you mentioned village IL assume her services are not in high demand either so that's gonna nock down expenses a lot in hindsight.

I fully understand that its not much after costs. The point I was making was theres more money in non skilled work,than skilled in certain areas. She works 5 full day, as she does holiday cottage laundry too! So basically she earns more than skilled men bashing metal.

Aye. I can relate.
Small cut in profits to very wealthy shareholders would have a huge effect on staff wages. Never happen though.

If I can't do a job I need to pay someone else to do it, doesn't matter if its £100 a day or£300, thats their bonus for doing something I can't.My job is poorly paid, thats my own fault for choosing and staying with a trade thats well known for poor pay, its not the plumbers fault or the electricians.
Plumbers also need to travel to the job, someone needs to pay for that, I had to get my boiler serviced the other day, half an hours travel gets paid with the job not just the hour he spent doing it, plus he needs to pay for the van and fuel to get there.
By the way mechanics also sell scrap:- calipers, clutches, cats, ecu's, batteries, I never expect to be offered to take it away after the job is done.

Yes it only takes a month to save up £100 of iron scrap! Not one job and that £100 goes to the boss not the mechanics

Depends where you work.
Sale of scrap batteries used to pay for all the beers at xmas time where I worked, and that was when batteries were worth 50p a shot.(mind you beer was probably only twice that).

Thats the way a lot of plumbing and electrical companies do it. Split the haul or use it for an Xmas do at the end of the year.

my gaffer the tight get used to save all the scrap cable and i had to burn it off he never gave me owt for doing it so i collard him . he said he payed me . as it was in his time

yes grass cutting only even for private punters easy fast job good money. ask him to do borders and a bit of digging and i bet he wont its not worth the hourly rate. cutting hedgeback is good loot as well
