. Same should apply to any chosen profession (providing it is carried out correctly).
Couldn't agree more,

Since this is a welding forum. I knew a welder who did a great weave while drying out. same thing 3 or 4 days. Probably wouldnt get through the heliport now.Sadly rife in the offshore and Marine industries...
I'm a functional alcoholic, if I'm honest with myself, always have been, some days harder to function than others... Too many years away for weeks / months at a time....
The best tech I ever worked with, was useless for the first three days of a trip, half cup of soup for dinner, because he'd spill the rest otherwise. Used to shake like a witchdoctors rattle... Every one knew, even the OIM would ask is John on solids yet ....... I used to laugh, but 20 years on I'm the same......
with lead and copper ast one time was worth taking the scrap away
nowadays its not worth it
its either price waste removal or let the customer get rid of there rubbish and its getting worse
as goes for scrap in emersion heaters and copper piping really not worth the 10-15.00 the plastic and the rest of the rubbish removal really makes it not worth removing the junk
When daughter and granddaughter was with us we had a “free” boiler installed. The condensate drain leaked, had to re-do it, the oil feed leaked, had to re-do that. The lash up in the loft on the flue had to be seen to be believed. Cowboys, or at best trainee cowboys. Anyway, got a new boiler out of it.
My mate’s a car mechanic - does the tech stuff as well as servicing/engines etc. Lump all that together and his level of knowledge has to be huge, yet his pay is pants. His brother is a plumber - needs a fraction of the skill but payd twice what his brother is.
Why does it feel like your victimising the plumbers and trades for mechanics low wages. That's down to the owners. The plumber wont need half the tools the mech needs, I reckon the plumber may need 10 to 25 percent of what the mech needs, and this is why mechs are getting thin on the ground.
Plus of course the plumber/sparky and builder bob will expect the mech to service their car/van for a drink!
I’m in Essex, plumbers and sparks are God’s. Chippies not so muchWhy does it feel like your victimising the plumbers and trades for mechanics low wages. That's down to the owners.
While a plumber/trade might be booking his 300 a day that's not what he's earning is it.
As for getting someone to fix work vehicles for a drink. Meh. Time is money. Van goes In The garage and gets flipped as quickly as possible and I foot the bill.
Again. That's not the plumbers fault is it? That's your industry setting the rates.I’m in Essex, plumbers and sparks are God’s. Chippies not so much
A trade here’s idea of a day is 6 hours for your £300-£400
I’m considered a semi skilled piece of crap in Essex (and I’ve got my out of date 16th as well!) and my day is expected to be min 8 hours work for £120 if I’m working self employed in another shop
Most ordinary people have to do 3 to 4 days work to pay for a trade for a day . Hence the comment that a few hundred of scrap extra bunce is to cover the two rubble sacks is a insult to a bottom feeder turd like me
I don’t use them as a rule, as despite being a thick metal worker I do a much better jobAgain. That's not the plumbers fault is it? That's your industry setting the rates.
Just tell them to leave the waste/scrap before they quote if it's that much of an issue for you
If removing waste is on the quote and you accept it then it's fair game.I don’t use them as a rule, as despite being a thick metal worker I do a much better job
You make me sound like a minge but taking £200 of scrap when you’ve already pulled someone’s trousers down is not a automatic right
Most people have a vehicle to get to work even if work is £10 per hr jobThe situation is exacerbated by the relatively high earning power of tradesfolk. I doubt it makes financial sense for a plumber with van, mortgage and family etc to spend the time properly sorting and grading the scrap bits, let alone reselling usable bits s/h. So their idea if its value is negligible.

Sold my spare small guillotine to a plumber so he could chop up pipe to jam in the van to weigh in.The situation is exacerbated by the relatively high earning power of tradesfolk. I made a nice outside garden planter from my old HWT using the top domed end. other parts went to me making windchimes, which look good when the verdigris appears.I honestly wouldn’t know what to do with it.
Id not bother, go buy a lawn mower and set yourself up as a gardner, or cleaner. Weve a cleaner in our village self employed wants 18.50 an hour! Something is wrong somewhere!I’m in Essex, plumbers and sparks are God’s. Chippies not so much
