I’m having a new boiler (Baxi 800 combi) fitted tomorrow. Currently there’s a hot water tank in the airing cupboard and a cold water tank in the loft, all to come out obviously. Question is should I empty the cold and hot tanks tonight to give the boiler guy a head start in the morning (I know how to do it, I replaced the hot tank myself about 10 years ago). Or would he just find it annoying that some amateur had been fiddling around before he arrived?

If you're feeling very Christmassy-generous tell them they can keep the stuff they rip out
If the customer wanted to dispose of the rubbish they could keep it all, however if they wanted to keep the scrap then a charge for waste disposal would be added to the bill
Suddenly a few quid for a cylinder doesn't seem worth it

I wouldn’t have a clue where to take it or how much to ask for it. When I changed it last time I left the old one out on the drive, it wasn’t there for long!

What a load of nonsense, on most jobs the cost of disposing of the rubbish is far outweighed by the scrap value, hence my stance that I remove all the waste or none of it, or a charge for disposal is added

No, the expected return on the scrap is factored into the job, all waste is disposed of or none of it, if the customer insists on keeping the scrap but the rest of the waste is removed then the quote is adjusted accordingly
With all due respect, reading your posts on the equipment you sell, you would do well to learn how to price for your time and not just breaking even
Have you checked that the cold tank doesn't serve W.C.s etc ? or are you looking to remove to get the loft space?
Yes, checked that thanks, everything else is straight from the mains. It wasn’t in the house I grew up in, still remember my dad telling us not to drink from the bathroom cold tap as there could be a dead mouse or worse floating around in the cold tank. No covers on them then.

Waste disposal is the bain of my life and a little bit of scrap isn't gonna ease that. Costs a fortune to remove Rubbish these days

It's customers who ask for a quote.
Once they've got it they then tell me they want to provide materials and then look surprised when I tell them il requote for the works or undertake on a day rate.
My margin on materials helps cover the unexpected that will always arise.

with lead and copper ast one time was worth taking the scrap away
nowadays its not worth it
its either price waste removal or let the customer get rid of there rubbish and its getting worse
as goes for scrap in emersion heaters and copper piping really not worth the 10-15.00 the plastic and the rest of the rubbish removal really makes it not worth removing the junk
