Why are gas cylinders a popular choice for making barbecues, rocket stoves, etc?

You pay a deposit on a bottle to Calor but you only get a refund if returned within 3 months.....I think........so someone has paid for the bottle and possibly much more than it cost.

Similar to the dealI have on my argon, 60 quid deposit and get it all back if returned in 3 months. After a year I don't get anything back, but can continue just paying for refills.

I use a big propane bottle as a remote receiver for compressed air to run a plasma table
No matter how much air it has had through it the propane smell is still there

cheapest pine disinfectant works wonders

oh and be careful with beer kegs breweries are a bit more protective than the gas companies
i was told that if a scrap yard is found to have an identifiable piece of keg they are fined about 40k don't know if its true but it wouldn't surprise me

built a rocket stove out of 3 small ones just to test its principle

it works well from it then decided to move to proper metal using same thickness as gas bottle 3mm only difference is the top plate it needs to be thick as it wears away due to high heat a rocket stove produces at the top

ample enough for my needs on a first build and to keep it but i like upgrading stuff

Yes when I left the UK I took the two large propane cylinders and a butane cylinders to the local gas supply company in Lancaster to claim my deposit back ... And they said "you have to claim the deposit back from the company you first got the gas from"! that was 30 years ago and in Dundee ....so I gave them to a mate who makes stoves and BBQs...

The difficulty with an open refund policy is that cylinders would be prime targets for the caravan dwelling nomads.

I have a few kegs I picked up on the beaches. Not my fault they're so bleedin' careless with them at sea, is it? In fact, I don't know who they might have belonged to, as there's no ID on them.

I dont care if they want them and they refuse to come out and collect its tough luck in my eyes

if they receive a telephone or email quoting the bottle come and collect it then they dont then its there tough luck see you in court then as you had ample time to collect you didnt after so long it then becomes yours

Beer kegs seem to be moving on to stainless steel now, certainly the artisan brewers all use them, so even better skip diving opportunities await us in the future.

I was told by my local scrap yard that if kegs were found on the premises they could be fined several thousand euros. Years ago it was quite common to see them in the place I'm talking about, but not anymore.

I don't think that you can legally own a stainless keg, I know a guy that wa locked up overnight caught making BBQ's etc, even though he had bought them from a fire damaged brewery, the chap that sold them at the brewery was not authorised to do so, When it was sorted out the next day he still didn't get his items back.
