Who is allowed to move this smart meter box

I plan to remove the shelf in the meter cupboard to free up more room as I'd like to have a cut off switch and new CU for the garage above the existing CU.

Who is allowed to move the thing circled in red, the lid has a security wire/tag on it. If I just cut it who will ever know, could have been previous home owners?

If I get a sparky in to fit the new cut out switch and garage CU, he will need to pull the fuse, how will he get permission for that as it's also wired in?

I had to get my electricity supplier to move my meter and install an isolation switch.
The sparky said he's not supposed to pull the fuse and could get in bother if caught.

So I'd suggest asking your supplier

if its fastened to a wooden board cut round it and refix above they have contact switches in the meter covers to stop tampering

+1. Do some exploration. Pry it away from the wall just a little and use a hacksaw blade to see how many screws fix it to the wall. If it is one or two, the hacksaw blade might cut through them. Pulling the blade in the correct direction might unscrew them. Double-sided sticky pads would refix it.

Oof I think it was about £160ish (charge for fitting the isolator). Scottish power the robbers. It was such a rigmarole that I got £70 back as compensation for the multiple missed appointments etc.

robbing gits i just do loads of em live and the service conector boxes its no big deal

I have (had) my Mocoppa, meaning I could cut and reinstall the seals

And smart meters do have intrusion detection switches, some companies don't however log the activity

Cut the screws behind the box with an HSS multitool blade and stick the box in the new location with CT1.

Last isolator I had fitted by eon for a customer and they changed £160 for the privilege.
You might be lucky if your there when they attend and get them to move the com's box for nought. If you ask them they will likely charge for it too!

loosen the tails give them a waggle and report overheating and they will be out like a flash free

Strictly speaking he should book an appointment with your DNO, DNO come out pull fuse and fit an isolator, refit and reseal the fuse or they come back once the work is done and refit and seal the fuse.

In reality this is a no go for any person trying to function as a business and make money on a job, waiting round for the DNO to possibly/possibly not turn up is a waste of time.

Most sparks just pull the fuse themselves.

The argument is you can’t work live- it’s against the law, apart from in certain circumstances, the one of which you mention isn’t one. However you can’t isolate the supply because it’s DNO property and sparks can’t touch it…yet you can’t work live

There was a DNO down south somewhere authorising sparks to pull fuses if they were registered with NIC or Napit but only heard that 3rd party.

As with everything else electrically related it’s a ***t show.

That has all stopped again, only Dno or IDno, metering are allowed to pull them.
Such a pain in the a5e to get cut outs fitted, they should be standard fit with a meter.

Some companies have started fitting them as part of smart meter upgrades but there are still far too many properties with no isolation without the fuse being removed.

At the moment I am having a new power supply installed. The work is being done by National Grid as the original supply was condemned as insufficient. (forced upgrades for EV's etc me thinks) They have powers to move the meter otherwise it is your energy supplier or an authorised installer for them who can (legally) move it if it needs disconnecting and reconnecting. If it is just a minor relocation without need for disconnection etc any registered electrician should be able to do it but with the consent of your supplier. Just make sure you record the meter readings before doing so

The sparky who hooked up my garage wiring turned the mains off for couple of minutes at the main inlet, maybe pulled a fuse, I’m not 100%, but he said he had to be quick or the smart meter would report it as a fault to the supplier and they would send someone to investigate to see what was going wrong with my system.

registered with who i dont think so they wouldnt even have the crimps for the seals and there numbered and mustered out to the engineer who seals them

I'd be tempted to pull the fuse and see what happens. Are there really roving specials who investigate meter faults? I'm almost tempted to have a smart meter installed just so I can do this.

generaly if its the main cutout fuse seal broken the meter reader reports it if he can be bothered and they send someone out to replace it if there not very busy i had the cover of the meter and tails out putting in a new db and the meter reader came in and saw it .i just said no big deal just report as unsealed im not bothered nothing will become of it if you do red the meter and left

What is that anyway? Comms Hub, or part of it? It's not the actual meter.

I'd give it a smack with a hammer and report it broken. When they come and fit a new one, get it put where you want it.
