Yes of course. But the drivers are having to pay the increased prices for anything they buy........someone somewhere is making money.
It's called inflation and nobody wins!

Yes of course.

Until the company who provided it go bust! Those with fixed interest debt win.
I totally understand that and I would do the same myself. I was working 18 hours a day for around 2 years and should have had 40k commission. My choice as it suited me.They are up on at least £14 now and the company my mate works for are some of the worst payers. Plenty out there paying £18.
And the point in a job like that is to make money. If you have debts to pay or big bills then yes I would and do.
I work over 80 hours a week.
When I was working in IT I was on one contract with no day off for 3 years. My choice.
Most self employed people don't get holiday pay or anything else. You don't work you don't get paid.
Until the company who provided it go bust!
It's an interesting discussion but sadly not for here as the lock would soon follow. But logic says stagnant wages or high inflation "should" be a similar result. Lol. It's the creaming of for doing nowt that's the problem.Yes of course.

Someone has to win...for a period.Yes of course.

April was a long time ago..Doesn't he put on his quote, material prices subject to change etc? Cos he should.
I can tell you who IS making obscene amounts of money. It's an interesting discussion but sadly not for here as the lock would soon follow. But logic says stagnant wages or high inflation "should" be a similar result. Lol. It's the creaming of for doing nowt that's the problem.
Why more so now than before? Genuine question. Has there been more shipping done in the last 6 months?I can tell you who IS making obscene amounts of money.
The biggest shipping companies.
Haapag Lloyd made more profit in the last 6 months than the previous 10 years
No the prices for a container were $2000 last year. Now they are $22000Why more so now than before? Genuine question. Has there been more shipping done in the last 6 months?
That is the part of the job my mate hates the most. Going to London every weekend and dealing with the M25.From my perspective as a wagon driver, it's not all about the money.
Up until a month ago I was driving an artic for a heavy haulage company about 30minutes from home and was on contract to one of the bigger players in the brick and block world. Plenty of work and away all week, take home pay was around £700 for around 65 hours a week, but the bulk of the work was to London and the southeast which is quite frankly not what I want to do. The trailer was very rarely empty and as soon as one load was tipped there was another one waiting to be loaded.
I heard about the job I've got now and walked straight into it and being honest I'm a lot happier. My wages for the same hours and 2 or 3 nights out are a bit less but there's no London, which is always a bonus , the work is more varied, the yard is 5 miles from home, and the atmosphere is much better. The bulk of the 8 wagons are on livestock work and the general haulage is split between me and one of the other lads and we get left to sort it out between us. The boss is very particular that we keep legal and as long as the work gets done he's happy and he's not on the phone every 5 minutes chasing us.
Being happy at work counts for a lot in my book and I have no need to metaphorically sell my soul to Satan for a few pounds.
And one of the reasons given is that there's an actual container shortage - e.g. they're all sitting empty in western ports rather than back in china getting filled up again? No the prices for a container were $2000 last year. Now they are $22000
Totally agree, but I spent 30 years driving double deck buses in London - 16 years central London, then the rest around Croydon.Being happy at work counts for a lot in my book and I have no need to metaphorically sell my soul to Satan for a few pounds.
There are many reasons. And one of the reasons given is that there's an actual container shortage - e.g. they're all sitting empty in western ports rather than back in china getting filled up again?
Surely this can't be the only reason?
He maintains that driving standards have dropped even further since the end of lockdown.
