The good old days were sh*te.
We live longer. The calorie intake per person across the world's population has increased. We don't look and dress like our fathers or grandfathers.
The only retrograde step has been the loss of Concorde.

The 70s and early 80s were the best time to be alive, bar none. It all started to go downhill in the late 80s. If I could turn back the clock, I would in an instant. We had freedom, opportunity and vibrancy, before we started allowing children to dictate to us.

I think television has brainwashed the world to some extent thinking about it.

Furthermore, most of us got along very well and were not the faintest bit interested in what shade you were, what your private life was, which imaginary mate you preferred** or what your political leaning was. Unlike now where one part of society is continually being pitted against another, based on the above irrelevancies.

When I was a lad if you needed a Jimmy Riddle it meant a walk down the yard with grandad's paraffin lamp... and a bigger job involved Izal 'medicated' toilet paper... this was as late as 1974, by the way :O

My granny's house shared an outside "thunder box" with the house next door.

Beds were always a bit damp and consisted of sheets and an eiderdown that weighed 200kg.

My grandad used to singe his trousers daily while warming himself on the coal fire when the newspaper he used to increase the draw caught fire.

I went to Spain on a school trip in the mid 60s, went into a bar & as normal over there, there was a tele on with no-one watching, what was on, Bonanza, dubbed into Spanish!

I recaall staying with the grand parrents.
Each room had a open fire, carpet that did not rwch the walls.

The eiderdown, to me, was so heavy you could not move.

The outside loo had torn sheets of news paper hanging on a brass hook, a candle and the swan vesta on the window ledge.

The downstaires fire heated a back boiler for hot water and the 3 radiators.
