Have you tried Gramoxone, farmers used to use it on potato crops before machine harvesting to kill the vegetation.
My argument is that while obviously some pest/weed control may be necessary in certain cases it has become the easy option to chuck chemical poison at every such problem. Pouring boiling water on most garden weeds a couple of times will sort most out.
What about the knock on effects of removing the early pollen and food sources of important pollinators and birds?
