A simple and easy job after work, filling some holes on an old steering wheel (I've no idea the car it belongs to) that my machinist friend brought me. Actually I wasn't as easy as I thought, it was weird to weld, I don't even know how to explain. Looks like regular rolled aluminum but welds more like cast aluminum, really weird stuff.
But in the end the result was good, a quick pass with a special alloy flap disc and tomorrow the center will be machined, the holes drilled and polished.

Doesn't look too bad from here, nice touch with the name!Last few little welds to my tig trolley and a coat of workshop (MF) red paintlooking forward to building it back up..
My spraying skills are limited!

Thanks, I'm pleased with it, will look great with stainless handle and alloy plates plus my trick little 360 deg holders, I wanted to get it powder coated so drove it a mile up the road, the chaps do a great job but at £80.00 to do my cart I though back to the spray gun haha, was just trying to lazy out of doing it

No it's not that big mate, used larger thin angle for the trays for the depth, and then some smal gauge for the frame work, will stick up a pic when all together to see what you think. Mostly made from cleaned up scraps Total cost so far £20 for paint, mig wire, gas, lecric and some time. Oh and the 300.00 raptor chop saw's first job

Aha- so 320 quid-for a bit of kit you could have got ready made for way less-but- its tailor made, and you have a new piece of kit to make further stuff with, used up some off cuts=satisfaction-priceless

No welding today - yet, just finishing off my thingies and wotsits to try and make my life easier, and hopefully make my welds easier/better
first one is me lil pipe holding jig, the v clamps are magnetic, but not mega strong, but, I find magfield causes TIG arc to play up, so I bent up copper strips to go in the Vees, maybe that will reduce or knock out any magforce.
The idea behind the rods is to help keep things lined up and hold the copper strip to pin the pipe/tube in the Vee cos I'll cock up the tacking and knock everything off square-guaranteed
I need more of the V mags, or preferably weld up a jig for the second section of pipe, but the set up shown worked a treat for welding the pipe to a plate yesterday.
The bits I welded-I mean gobbed together-yesterday, were for a height ajustable arm rest, I can't get a decent prop/steady with my current layout and I am pants at free hand TIG , so I nicked the preacher curl pad off me weights bench as I don't need it, (I'm still preaching rubbish but I've stopped curling), hopefully that will steady up, going to put the plumbers foil pad over the leading edge in case the plastic catches, one of my bad habits is flaring the arc-I sometimes forget I have now got a pedal/downslope/post gas, and snap out lift TIG style, cos thats what I started out on
. Hopefully the MK1 version will be the only one.

Spool gun! Try telling my boss what one of them is! No normal torch with a yellow Teflon liner. You have to wind the tension on the wire rollers back a bit to stop it bird nesting and keep the torch as straight as you can. It's a pain you find half way through the weld the wire slows down and the rollers are slipping on the wire. Used to have a push pull torch (has rollers in gun) and that was perfect but these are really expensive.
Yes the black smut is normall and blows of with airline. Not sure what you mean with alloy tig smut though. My alloy tig welds are allways clean unless I dip the tungsten.
