Have you ever seen this old Tony's "power feed" for his lathe top slide? He made a bit of bar into a handle to hook over the handwheel and it turns with a cordless drill

Pretty sure @doubleboost did something similar several years ago, think it was the compound slide he was powering via a battery drill

"Compound Slide" is the American name for the thing that is known in the UK as the "Top Slide"

Not seen Old Tony's version but made this years ago for the top slide on my myford

Now also have a harrison with a TTA so this doesn't get used much. Thought of doing something similar for the mill but as I was flycutting and needed a slow feedrate I didn't think I would be able to control a variable speed drill trigger well enough, not without inadvertently squeezing the trigger at the wrong moment and bad things happening!

A new spindle fornmy pillar drill. The original has B18 taper, the new have MT2.
Material: 42CrMo4
Next step is heat threating, then grind the bearing and taper faces.

Just made this chain fin from 5083 alu, still have to make some acetal parts and a backing plate but made this up first so I could get some measurements. The front top corner only partially took the dye for some reason but can easily make another if it ends up bothering me Unlikely to see it anyway as you won't see for the swingarm.

Turning a register for a bison 5c collet chuck. I got the chuck and backplate 2 years ago with the lathe. Obviously you can't rush these things

Bleedin cast iron gets everywhere, serves me right for cleaning the lathe last week

Got the TIR to 0.02mm so leaving it at that as likely to make it worse rather than better

Took the gap out again , had this shower plate on the Lathe, plumber set the shower in too deep , so by machining out the centre hole he managed to fit the plate ! Nice chrome finish on the plate so wrapped it in masking tape and set to it

Oh bother said I, having not realised it was to short for a 4ft board and with a project coming up involving cutting multiple 8x4 sheets. So firing up CAD I ended up with this:

3d printing 2 of these, 1 for each end:

Resulting in a 235mm extension. Finally we get to some machining! Needing to extend the clamping rod as well, I found a suitable piece of 8mm bar and threaded the end 5mm. Then cleaned up and drilled and tapped the original rod, having to make a plug for the spindle and use low rpm as there was a lot of stick out:

Blending in the join:

Then cutting a new circlip groove:

Finally resulting in something that can clamp a 4ft sheet:

In attempt to fool myself that I do actually use my milling machine I’ve been fannying around making some clamps.

I rigged up the horizontal arbor to speed things up a little. Doing so has reminded me that when I’ve used it before I’ve usually ended up with an odd finish at the end of the cut. Can anyone tell me what causes this? Is it just the chips packing up at the end?

Another keyway bush. This one is for a 16mm bore and a B type broach. The turning is pretty shoddy but I'm very happy with the slot that I cut on my Bridgeport.
A 6mm Aliexpress carbide endmill was used. They look suspiciously similar to the ones that Rennie tools sell. I think the font on the case sticker is the same although the branding is different.

I've managed a very nice fit that's much better than one of the slack offerings I bought off Ebay recently.

This was the mill going back in the case after I'd finished with it.

Today I've been putting the edge prep on some plates for weld test , grinder first then onto the mill to get a finish , I tryed a few different ways but ended up dropping the head down , had to extend the head as far as it would go , the only problem is the quill was also fully extended , not great , I think this is because I have the height extension on the machine , take a look
