I've modded mine (Hoover) 9kg made it hot fill and takes about twice the water does a full wash in about 45 mins now ,and now you can hear it washing you couldnt even see water in there before ! and everyone was getting skin problems rashes etc after my mods no problems.
we couldnt do with a wash taking 2 1/2 hrs sometimes we do four in a row

I bet you altered the screw on the pressure switch to get a higher fill, but how did you speed up the wash time ?

several screws actually it took quite a lot of setting if you go to much on one it then says the water valves are faulty. etc etc
If filled to near capacity the clothes hardly moved about ie they went round obviously but stayed in the order they where put in , now with plenty of water they get sloshed around nicely.

but how did you speed up the wash time ?

By hot filling, I fitted a third valve (cut out was there and the pipe in the powder draw) and timer a momentary switch on the front panel so that when the cold valve opens it swaps it to the hot fill the timer self latches for predetermined time, the amount of water it now takes, would take at least 1/2 hr to heat alone I would say, on start up it says it should take 132 mins for the usual wash, we do in under 45mins it just takes loads of time off in chunks when it would normally be heating.
the other BIG advantage is we now use cheapo powder and have cut the amount used by half.

with us having dogs all my clothes and the wifes get FULL of white hairs etc and we also wash the dog blankets cushions etc etc to kill most mites etc you need to heat above 60 deg. not saying they have them but ----better safe. they are walked across common land FULL of other dogs.
But the extra water and heat gets rid of the hairs etc

for what its worth, weve got a Servis machine we bought in 2001 as a young couple buying our first house.

WOW thats incredible --------------- but surely for it to reproduce--------- you must have bought two?? -----AH but it was a servis ---------so maybe could service it'self.

but hot fill would be pointless for me as the boiler is at the other end of the house upstairs.

AH ha it was all in my master plan 25 yrs ago washer is on one side of wall from DHW boiler the other side, and no hot tap further than 12ft away

A local guy sells & services white goods from his house. He's a decent guy with no ties to any manufacturer and when it comes to washing machines his recommendation would be a Miele for industrial or heavy domestic use and a Bosch otherwise.

My Mum loved her old servis twin tub and kept it going until parts were no longer available.

You can still buy twin tubs brand new in developing countries, even ones with the mangle mounted on top.

Yup used to use one at my Gran's as a nipper. Nowt as posh as that copper one though, more like the wooden one on the left here:

Were tough going on washing machines and kettles, name them tried them longest one lasted was a Hotpoint, scrap at 2 1/2 years. All other makes usually last 14 to 26 months after three major repairs. Quality kettles don't make 12 months longest 14 months, worst Bosch.
Hoover didn't make 8 months and had to pay authorised installer, new switch under guarantee £70, labour chargeable.

Bare above in mind when a Hotpoint and Hoover was £400, Miele delivered £575 yep noticed bargain price at time. Best money ever spent in 2002 paid for itself at least 6 fold, never ever even looked at it apart to clean the filter. Put that in context would have replaced at least 6 times a machine £400 to £500 from likes of Zanussi, Bosch, LG, Hotpoint, Hoover and the like. Takes two to move it around the drums are concrete bearings guaranteed for 10 years.

Interersted in your mods normspanners. Does the washing time automatically reduce as it is a function of temperature? Or did you have to fiddle with some timers?

No twiddling timers, yes the washing time reduces automatically because it doesnt have to heat up, so the engineers have planned the time for various washes and it knows how long it SHOULD TAKE but by the water being preheated it fast forwards that lump of time BUT I have it to fill with twice the amount of water than before, as said so that heating time would be extended to possibly double, when we first got it the washer would fill and start to work but you couldnt see or hear any water !! now the clothes slosh though the water and you can hear it churning.
My dirty overalls would come out cleaner but still dirty it hadnt lifted the oil and grease we now use half the powder and the clothes are clean and no alleges.
Also I can do 5 pairs of overalls thick with grease etc and then do a white wash straight after, with no problems.
