thrilling subject I know but having recently found myself single again , I am in need of a new washing machine . My old one packed up and is now in bits waiting to go to the scrap yard , it was a whirlpool and about 10 years old . Never gave any trouble till the end .

Anyway I used to fit and repair milking machines on farms and Miele used to build them not very common but came across a Miele installation in Wales .
The milk pump was basically a washing pump in a stainless steel cabinet and the farmer said it was very reliable and had never even had a set of seals on it . Pretty amazing considering the amount of milk it must of pumped in 20 years use .
The pumps we used fit we had to change the seals once a year , or maybe that was a money making scheme , although changing them regularly was preferable to a 4 am call out because the milk wouldn't pump away
The farmer said he had a Miele dishwasher thrown in when he bought the milking parlour and had never given trouble in 20 odd years. He prob still has it another 5 or 6 years on .

Anyway you could say they are twice the price of a cheap zanussi /candy / hot point etc , but I like to have quality items when I can afford and justify them so any thoughts or other recommenations ,

I and my daughter have Bosch but my next one will be Miele! When, I don't know, as the Bosch is very good as long as you ensure your work clothes has their pockets emptied!!

Cheap is Cheap for a reason. I had a temp job delivering white goods. the meiles were a good deal heavier than the usual suspects hotpoint etc. the ovens were nearly as heavy as a normal washing machine. You didn't want a meile washer in the run.

you pays your money and take your choice. if its twice the price and lasts atleast twice as long its a good buy. If you havn't got the money though then you need cheap.

Miele if you can afford it but remember you are single and how much will you use it compared to a family and is it worth it then.

Unfortunately Bosch haven't got the reputation they once had anymore, ours is one of the old school Bosch and was new in 1997 and has never gone wrong. Rusty as hell now but never broke down.

I have always bought cheap washing machines ..but when I worked in the theatre the wardrode department always used Miele machines, they take a hammering ... jeff...

Maybe go for British? Ebac is launching the only british made (?) washer shortly

sound advice from rocket man, when I was single, I had an old rattly one I inherited when I bought my flat, ran away fine, but then married, kids came along, etc, left the old machine in the flat when I sold it. Bought a new one, first few years the dam thing was rarely off.....knocked the living daylights out of it, now the kids are older it's calmed down again.

You're right buy cheap buy twice etc, but there's a sensible limit; especially with this type of thing, a cheap one little used will probably be fine, heavy use I'd go for a better quality. We've gone for whirlpool both times, and honestly can't fault them, price per duration I think it's pretty fair. Had 8 years heavy use out of the last one, new one is only 4 years old now, so far so good.

at the end of the day, they're almost consumable now, like everything else !!

Yea I did hear somewhere previously about ebac building machines in the UK , seems there not producing them yet , I have e mailed them to enquire tho .
Can see a Miele winging its way here soon ..

Samsung do a 5 year warranty also
Miele -2/5/10 years depending on the machine

LG direct drive 5 years with a 10 year motor warranty, 2 years on the rest

I'd avoid AEG...rebadged Electrolux

you may also want to avoid zanussi as well the as they are also owned by Electrolux

Oh yea forgot to say I have a beco fridge ,(made in Turkey ) not bad ,a bit noisy but as with most things you get what you pay for .

Just dont buy one of these Eco things...cold water only and about 3 pints too.Fact of life Korea cant make washing machines

All machines are cold water only now, and most to meet energy efficiency use less water and longer cycles (most detergents are reformulated to work in less water now and at cooler temps - most work best at 30-40C, some even down to 15C or less)

yea does a great job on my working gear too...progress my a$&e

My machine has an A class 40C wash (takes 2.5 hours though), which along with some (20 plus year) old tactics such as washing up liquid and oxy clean added to the detergent, removes almost anything...

washing up liquid works remarkably well for removing oil and grease especially from working gear, not the first time I've turned a blackened oily shirt back to white....no wonder it dries your skin....

so lets lower the water temp and give you less water but make it run for 2.5 hours ...Now i know i wont get asked to build a mars landing craft as ime not clever enough but even for my IQ that does not add up for saving the planet

We had to get an American top loader when Dearly Beloved was not well, but I really wanted a Miele, or a little later ISE10.

Maybe one day but ISE are getting some grief recently.

what I hate about washing machines is, the damn things take forever just to spin ie if you hand washed a t shirt then wanted to spin it, it takes ages good old twin tubs had it done in a minute or so

more energy efficient motor, water is surprisingly resource intensive to make safe to drink and to clean enough to release into rivers, washing cycle on new machines uses less than a Kw on cool cycles even the long ones...turning the heater on for a short cycle uses 3+ Kw...

but by having a kw motor runing 3 times as long brings us to 3 kw so no further forward...my water rates pay for harvesting and removing the water so thats sorted and it gets replemished every time it rains.my new machine from korea wont last a 5th long as my old german one did so more resorces to make 4 more machines and my working gear is making me look like a tramp because 3 pints of cold water never washed it...progress my a$&e i repeat. sorry to the OP for a slight tanget btw

Never heard of Ise but just looked them up , well they are no longer , as the supplier of there machines in Sweden went bust or something . Looked like a good heavy duty machine tho .

No doubt the cold fill thing is some euro directive or other .
