think about this for a minute. a60 front plates are over $10 each. if your using the mask daily and changing that plate once a week , in 9 months youll have spent more money on plates than what the mask cost new. theres nothing brilliant about that

Tha Parweld is very good .
Thet do 2 versions one has a lift up front .
The front shield us only £2.50
Inner one is,coppers
The R Tech is also a very nice helmet .
I use a,Optrel for TIG . Not a budget helmet but very nice

If you can get a looked-after speedglas used in good nick id look at that as an option to, i've had a 9100 speedglas for 20 years. seen a lot of 8-12 hour shifts week in week out and still going.
I didn't fair so well with the xxi version though. I got an a60 last week which is a lot of mask for the price but doubt it would hold up to the abuse of the 9100, and just ordered a paramaxx 2.0

Try being a bit less school master and more a mate you will be liked more and listened to as well
I run an Optrel for tig not had to change front visor in 3 years, but don't throw it about and clean as well, tried an Esab truecolojt the other day very nice.
Have a50£ unit i leave in van it is 6/7 years old and still works for the rough jobs

Looking to upgrade my mask shortly.

I've had god knows how many cheap Chinese ebay specials, then a few cheap sealey and currently a SIP from screwfix that claims to be true colour and as much as it is much clearer to look through and no annoying green tint, it's not as true colour as it could be and welding today it just seemed darker than it usually is, even set to shade 9 it was a struggle to see anything except the arc, usually it is really clear so I assume its on its way out.

So im looking for something with a bit better quality, but still not stupidly expensive like a pro mask.

Don't care about grinding mode, never used it on the masks ive had that have it, must be adjustable shade auto dark and I'd prefer a wide viewing area.

Any suggestions? Up to say £80?

If you don't mind sending a courier to collect like dpd etc I can box this up and let you have it free.

A pal of mine had a nice sideline back in the day soldering batteries into these helmets and I would imagine someone is going to have a nice sideline going repairing these newer helmets too. Every cloud and all that.

My plan is to repair the 3 masks I have here with dead internal cells and sell or donate them.

if you liked the 9100 im sure you would like the g5-03pro even more. its only been on the market around 6months i think so most people have never heard of it. still has side windows ,although slightly smaller. right knob adjusts friction , left adjusts parking just as the 9100 did. head gear is all new design that fits head better. atleast three different welding lens can be fitted. one has natural color ,2.5 light shade. grind and cut shades are tap activated, a nice feature that no other mask on the market has. the only bad thing ive found to say about it is they added bluetooth and auto on and a single 2450 so battery life is reduced a fair amount.

It's not a good helmet, it is a brilliant helmet. easily in the top three.

I agree, I've got a plain A50, an A50 PAPR, and by brother has a plain A60. I love these hoods. I've made lots of money using them too.
I've used and bought lots of hoods for welders over the years, including optrel and speedglas, and the A50/A60 still holds up fine.

The older esab PAPR was a bit rubbish, it's easily damaged, but the newer epr-x1 version is better.

Looks like an older gen of the Pro HD maybe...? Couldn't say more than that but a free mask is a free mask!

Ye i had a thing for flip ups, its identical to the r-tech so everything will fit but from a different company forget the name. i should still have the original spares, the yellow tint and other bits i'll send you pm.

Goggling it brings back r tech speedmaster that looks identical, michigan and a few other brands from other countries. Looks a decent mask to be fair.

Ye i was quite impressed with the adf, ive been waiting for a candidate to to kick it on to failing that i was going to use the adf to sit in front of a gopro.

Yeah maybe one day. To be honest i haven't looked at speedglas in years, i did upgrade to the xxi flip up air fed rig and the adf lasted one 10 hour shift, next day it was dead,sent it back waited a month for replacement and that Adf had a different issue. so that was my last speedglas. Thing is everyone on the shop floor was rocking those xxi,s at the time and issues were unheard of, Maybe one day i'll treat myself

i wish i was a speedglas rep. i could use some extra money .but no ,im just a lowly old welder without connections to any company that sells or makes weld equipment.

lets face it. 90% of folks on forums arent welding as a day job. we cant expect them to know the difference between all the masks on the market. they know one mask cost less than the other , thats the extent of their mask knowledge , and generally thats how they determine what mask to buy (which ever one costs the least). buy what ever you want. not a penny of it is going in my pocket. so go ahead and boycott speedglas , makes no difference to me.
since welding is my day job ,and have owned numerous different brands and models , i know the fine details that make them good or not so good , between the different brands. i share the information i know , with the people that dont know. what they do with that information is up to them. i know which ones are tuff as nails and which ones arent. i know which ones can be lifted up and down thousand times on original hinges and which ones cant. im not the worlds leading expert on weld masks but i do know alot
