I've had an idea on the back burner for a while to build a 'throwback' bike, the sort of thing that you'd see in magazines or some of the race series which we coveted/tried to build in the 1980s. Having got some inspiration over the weekend in Yorkshire it's moved up the list and will be pretty stock looking, with a draw through turbo.
Starting point will be a bone stock GSX1100 ET frame already blasted and painted by Dream Machine.
Into that will go the Roger Upperton engine. Wiseco big bore, head ported with larger EF valves fitted, welded crank all checked out and the lower cases in charcoal cerakote. The top end is on the other ET at the moment to run it in before turbo time. Draw through will be a bit more period and to me (just an opinion!) will look better than a blow through.
To keep the period look it needs RWU forks, so I have a Slabby front end to refurbish. I'll be on the look out for a JMC/metmachex swing arm, but until one turns up I'll just use the existing arm.
Wheels need to look period, preferably aftermarket race in appearance. Old Dymags and the like are out for me as I just wouldn't trust them. At the moment the most likely contenders are the '06 on Kwak ZX6R wheels as they have more than a passing resemblance to dymags from back in the day.
Bodywork is going to be all ET including the side panels, paintwork I'm thinking '70s psychedelia with flip, candy, pearl, flake kinda goodness. Giuliari seat is on the rack ready to go.
Electrically it'll have to be all new, so it may as well be modern too with an M-Unit, updated switch gear etc. I think digital Can-Bus dash fitted into the ET clock cases will be likely.
Timing wise I have a load of the stuff already, so I just need to free up the space, time and money to actually do it. Ideally I'd like it on the road next Summer, but we all know how quickly that sort of schedule can go out the window. However that's what I'm aiming for.
