My mill is an ELT model which is slightly different, with the vertical head being bolted to a bracket which attaches it to the main column dovetail slide for the knee, but yours should also be easily removed. The vertical head is heavy, so be careful.

Yes, it is a universal model, and I was very lucky to spot it on the evening it was posted for sale on the " lathes.co.uk " website a few years ago. I was told by the owner that he had purchased it as part of a job lot sale from a College closing down its machine shop classes. He only wanted the lathe, which was a Hardinge, that was also in mint condition.

Anybody know the hole size in the base for the leveling feet. going to look for some now for when mine is collected so cant measure mine.

What an afternoon . But its home.

Not bad first drop. I was going to fit feet but it seems fine as is. Good solid base.

Slight problem though. I cant use it lol.

I asked how he was running on power.and he said an inverter. Didn't know he meant a transwave not a VFD

Bloody price of transwave aswell.

Be easy enough to get a cheapish new motor and vfd for that. Of keep your eyes open for a used transwave etc they do come up

You should be able to rewire the motor for 240v 3-phase

Cheapest option I could come up with is a 415 to 240v transformer and a capacitor, since the motor rating appears quite modest. 500VA transformer from ete.co.uk is £60 ish, prob plus vat, then a capacitor to connect to the third phase as a Steinmetz connection. Works fine for coolant pumps, dont see why it shouldnt be ok for that motor. All the lathe controls should work as normal then.

Even cheaper if you reconfigure the windings as 240V delta, then you'd just need a suitable cap.

I did that with my lathe but i didnt want to mess with this machine and keep it as standard as poss. i know a bit anal but still lol.

ill need to see about rewiring the motor in anyway as i have no clue wat to do on that.
what ever way i go i need it done, and at lowest cost poss...as always lol

I was thinking of stepping up the voltage to 415 if you dont reconfigure the windings, otherwise you'd lose too much power. Thats a 240 to 240 isolation txfrm, you dont need isolation, just more volts.

i am looking for a transformer, think it will be easier.

Why? It does involve dismantling and finding the star point, but it then becomes a 240v delta wired motor. You don't lose any of the little power that you have from it.

i was goggling how to do it and i read that its has to be 240v 3ph to rewire to 240v single.

i keep looking for a wiring diagram then if it can be done. it will make it a lot easier. i wonder now why nobody mentiond it when i ended getting a VFD for the late as folk said tats the easiest way to go. .
