The little switch under the air filter cover.
A quick update and a question.
The saw is all apart, seals and gaskets removed and everything clean (nothing looked to be leaking but I am in this far now...)
For the gaskets, are these all applied dry or better with a smear of grease? I am particularly asking about the crank case gasket. Head gasket and exhaust I woudl expect to be dry.
Everyone has a different take on the subject reb, loctite 3020 is my choice on all the gaskets inc the metal ones.

From my dim and distant past I vaguely remember that running a 20/1 mix instead of 50/1 actually causes the engine to run weak which causes piston damage? Been many years since I worked on a two stroke

A further better confirmation is to slip the exhaust off and look throughteh port on the side of the piston if your saw is a two stoke ..look for signs of vertical groves up and down the piston
I fought a non starting petrol hedgetrimmer today...
Had to drain fuel and new plug.
Modern petrol goes stale very quickly.
Turning them over with a pull cord again and again - when they don't start is hard work - makes you arm ache.
Good morning gents. My two cents worth. Had my blower 'stihl 85 ' not going after the wife used it. She said it was hard to start, but got it 'going'. Fault traced to, after after cleaning carby several times to blocked spark arrestor. Remove the muffler and try starting it, if it goes clean out the muffler, burn it out if you cannot remove the spark arrestor. This worked for me, the blower now sound completely different, this problem had been stewing for some time and then just happened.
I did ......… after postingTake a look at post #50
New barrel & piston is the only cure I'm afraidI dont know if this is normal or indicates excessive wear? It was working fine one day and not the next. The marks look a lot worse than they feel - barely perceptible as i run my finger nail over them.

Re-check the fuel oil mix ration for the machine .. the silencer blocks up quickly with carbon if there is too much oil or high ash oil in the fuel .
I used to repair for a hire fleet of 35 plus two stroke chainsaws & discutters as well as lots of customers who owned their own machines ( we were a main agent for Sthil & Husquvana, I found that using what the manufacturer suggests & precisely at the right ratio is always far better than buying something that just says, " Universal two stroke oil 20 to 1 to 50 to 1 mix "
