Customers reject bin, the case was twisted. So it did not shut correctly.

It does now.

Those flexi drives are very useful, I seldom use my Dremel without it.

Yesterday I scored this Record 202 pipe cutter 1/8" to 2" Nominal Bore capacity or about 10mm - 60mm diameter for only £7.50 free P&P on the bay of all evil bees.

I also scored a 1980's model Bulldog sickle again also for £7.50 free P&P.

Today I was helping myself to a lot of stuff left behind by someone.
Friend has moved into her new house, as her old house will be it rented out. Until the divorce is final.
Yes Norbert was given his matching orders.

One cement mixer, as well as all the pallets and assorted wood you can just see.

Got these Record roller stands in the week. Someone had put them out for the scrap man with a load of other metal! I need to get one new rubber foot, but otherwise just a clean.

That's probably over £2k worth from EBay.

A mate of mine was asked to clear out some old cabinets at work last year and found a much smaller haul of metrology kit; I helped him identify most of it and he ebayed the lot... took the family away for a holiday on the proceeds and gave me a few items as a thank-you

With current paper-trail management, an instrument with no valid calibration cert. has limited use and the cost of having them recalibrated can be more than buying a new one that comes with a cert. That said, with a lot of Far Eastern kit the cert. isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
Add in UKAS traceability (we've just got that accreditation at work, even more bloody hoops to jump through) and you can spend more time making sure that the paperwork is right than that the job's done properly

As an example, we sell reference blocks used to set-up ultrasonic inspection equipment. The simplest blocks are just 'stepwedges', essentially a steel block with different thickness steps milled into it (and surface ground, which in itself is pointless but that's another story).
So if I was to measure those steps with a micrometer, first I have to leave both the block and the mic in a room with a stable temperature (and humidity ideally, but that again is another issue) for at least 24 hours.

Then I have to check that the mic has a valid cal. cert., that the battery is OK and the mic zeroes fine. I should also operate it through it's range to ensure it's not damaged and that the zero is retained.
Then I can apply said mic to a range of slip gauges (that have also been in the stable environment for at least 24 hours) and note the actual measured values - this proves that the mic. is basically accurate across its span.
Digging out the cal. cert. for the slip gauges I can now deduce how many microns error there is for each slip gauge; for every degree either side of a nominal 20 (worldwide standard temperature since 1930-something) I can apply a correction for expansion or contraction.
Sometime around now I can actually start measuring the workpiece, but first we'd better PMI it to make sure of the grade of steel, as they expand and contract at different rates not only to each other but also the measuring instruments...!

Of course one reading is no good so let's take three and find the mean; all the while avoiding handling either the mic. or the workpiece in case conducted heat from my hands causes their dimensions to change... now plug the whole lot into a spreadsheet which performs all manner of calculations to tell me that, ultimately, that 10mm thick bit of steel is as near as damnit 10mm and anyway the ultrasonic instrument that it will be used to check, can't resolve even a fraction of the accuracy to which I've just worked.
By the way, any certificate should include a drawing to show exactly where the measurements were taken on the workpiece; whether in the centre, near an edge (and if so, which one) and if the measured area is large enough, several readings should be taken (three times at each point) and the average thickness obtained... - and on, and on, and on

At my last job in maintenance, ±1mm was fine for what we did so the boss bought us some steel rules, then the H&S/standards jobsworth got involved and demanded they have a certificate of calibration or have a sticker stating "for indication purposes only" applied, we went for the sticker option and just used the rules to indicate how many mm we were measuring
