Today I acquired a Mercer DI and stand
. It belonged to a friend of my dads who recently retired, I'm not sure but It's possible he made the stand himself as an apprentice.It's a pretty terrible photo, but there's two pins in the base, about 3/16" diameter which can be fairly easily pushed out, does anyone know what they're for?

Pushed out they allow you to run the stand along an edge to gauge parallelism, or if you swap the DTI for a scribe it will function as a marking gauge.View attachment 83462

I'd guess they are from some kind of patent thread cutting thingamagig, like a coventry die only more adjustable and using single point tools rather than multipoint full form cutters.

they are boring cartridges as said, i think clarkson either did them or they fitted their tooling.
the two lugs keep it from turning and there would of been a locknut to tighten it down.
ive seen something similar about 10 yrs ago in a mill at a factory, old school now id assume but i dont know.

Just to finish off this subject, I tried a cut this morning - grass was a bit damp but what can you do.......? 
Here's the result of the first 're-introduction' to grass after ten years in a shed.......and yes, the stripes aren't dead straight 
Shame there's such a slope to the right, I might have to see if I can come up with a shim of some sort to lower the cut of the Flymo a bit. It's never-ending, this gardening caper.

Not bad.Interesting to here the age of the seed.This puts hope for a seed bank,if you get what I mean.Now you need to mate it with a Roomba and you'll be able to sit with a beer and watch it do the hard work.

I bought a gas bottle trolley a few weeks ago for £40. It came with a pair of empty oxy/acetylene bottles. The bottles 'found' themselves at an auction
and made £62, so the trolley cost me -£22!
