He's winding you up - 13 isn't unlucky in Japan - numbers 4 and 9 are though.

An M8 hex head in Japan is 12mm as that's Japan Industrial Standard.

They are a great job. I have the KM131R which is one of the most powerful ones Stihl do. It's a beast of a machine I really like it. I have a tiller for it that rips through root filled ground like it's nothing. And a strimmer attachment, carbon pole, hedge trimmer and a new brush ground sweeper attachment.

All genuine stuff, expensive but I got some good deals by being patient and bidding on ebay or from FB marketplace locally.

Worth the £ though IMO. Its top quality stuff. Mine is heavy enough being the largest engine but still OK for me personally.

Mine does need some new parts where the fittings attach as it sometimes loses drive, haven't got around to that yet. Aka a bushing or guide of some sort must be worn out.

My own one, I think it's little bit weak for the tiller.
I actually need the brush cutter attachment only, the komby is more suitable for my needs because I can carry it easily in my car trunk plus easier storage than a full length brush cutter.
I used to have an handlebar Chinese cutter it was a pain to get it into the car.
I have access to a Parkside comby but is heavy and not mine, I can use another Chinese brush cutter which can be divided in half but it belongs from my brother and despite he says that I can use it no problems.... I'm sure the day I'll use it, will surely break and I don't want to justify or apologize for that.
Problem here is that Stihl stuff is extremely expensive even when broken and used stuff is most times more expensive than brand new.

I've seen the bushings you are talking about.

An impulse order last month after I had real trouble with 12pt sockets rounding off a 7mm bolt head just arrived, it hadn't really occurred to me how absolutely diddy ¼" impact sockets would be.

Having mentioned I ordered these to the person who gifted me my big air impact and ratchet, I might have a ¼" impact gun on the way, if they can remember where it got put away... I was not aware such a thing existed until it was offered, but they're apparently very useful for working on engines.

Plus the rebuild kit I ordered for the IR impact gun, I was using it on the truck today, and whilst it was working nicely (and is a lot better than my big Makita), it will be so much better when it doesn't spray a fine mist of moly grease out the right hand side of the body whenever the motor is free spinning.

Every Japanese motorcycle I have ever owned has had 12mm head m8 fasteners. Can't recall finding a 13mm one. Many m10 fastenes have 14mm heads too on bikes.

Apparently in the 60's, JIS changed - before the change, an M8 had a 14mm head. To save material they decided to ignore the rest of the metric thread using world and picked 12mm . . . No idea if that's true or not, as I've not worked on anything pre-mid 60's from Japan that used threads that big.

I think about ⅔ of my impact sockets (and all my SAE impact sockets) are US Pro, I have generally been very happy with them.

A straight edge for checking cylinder blocks and heads.
Not going to use it for that, being theorycally precision ground I'm thinking to use it for checking guide surfaces on my machines.

Then I've bought a set of drill bits from Würth

1 to 13mm they'll do till I properly sharpen my Dormer set.
