What's the best type as an all-rounder?

Normally, Powder is best for all common causes of fire, extremely messy though.

I would always suggest putting a small CO2 and one or more huge Powder extinguishers together.

The CO2 makes it an easier decision to jump in with the right equipment to fight a fire whilst it's still small, because you know it won't be too much drama.

Whilst the big powder extinguishers are there as backup to ensure you can temporarily knock it down and then make yourself scarce if things don't go to plan.



Technically "Purple K" powder extinguishers can fight all types of fires (only certified for B/C by the UK distributor though) but it's not something most people need...

Unless you reasonably expect to have a fire that involves both:
- wood, flammable liquids/gasses or electrical equipment,
and
- either pots of boiling oil or flammable metals,
At the same time?

CO2 isn't great for liquid "pool fires", so if you're working with vehicles or solvents, it's worth having at least one Powder.

If Halon was still a widely available option, I reckon that would be the best compromise.

My oil boiler is not firing. Motor and pump hot and trying to fire constantly for a few seconds.

I think the motor or pump may be faulty.

I bought a good used burner identical for it:



Plan is to get me going later with this replacement and repair my original one too. Having good working parts to test will be useful for sure. And if I get both serviced and working perfectly + set then I'll always have a spare to swap out. 10 minute job to swap out. One fuel hose and an electrical plug.

Thought about this would take longer but 3/4" is on the way home
They say 3300Nm which is more than the onevan equivalent at 3100 but if it has 1800Nm it would be more than adequate for me.
Now a torque multiplier and big sockets set and all my Bolt unbolting needs are satisfied

I have been offered a KS Tools 3/4"sockets set for 70 euros+ shipping.
After a little briefing with the forum on a thread started this morning, we concluded that not going to have a lot of use, I wouldn't notice the difference between KS Tools or general Chinese made.
In addition the KS offered set are chrome sockets no pin detent fewer sizes etc.
So we came to the conclusion that a generic 100ish euro Impact rated sockets set would be the better option and most cost effective solution for my needs.
@frank horton said he has one or two sets and it's enough for it's needs.
But the plastic box is not enough durable.
So I thought about looking for old power tools steel carrying cases.
Found a sockets box and I thought well we can now check if the sockets will fit in it.
Search again and found this

Great success. One electrical plug, one m8 nut and a single fuel line means I can swap the complete burner head in minutes. Heating up and running again. Albeit it must be set with a small jet hence I ordered the same .65 80ES nozzle I run in this boiler and I will change that and tune it later this week.

I will also repair the original pump which turns out injested junk from a faulty oil tank filter.

Foam will cover most incidents in a workshop.

Co2 for electric fires.
Powder is a good all rounder, but the aftermath is terrible.

Today I've not acquired a 355mm cutting disc for my Makita cutoff saw.
As I need one but I cannot find one with the 30mm hole
They are apparently out of production.
I have to try to see if the husky centering washer fits on the cutoff
Otherwise I'll have to delay a job was intended to start this morning

Unfortunately I don't have any others because it's my first cutoff ever and I didn't collected any.
I've removed the 30mm washer, and used a 2.5mm electrode bent to make a ring and used that, then the disc plate have a recess wich allowed me to use the centering washer to prevent the electrode right to slip off the blade.
It worked out fairly well as a temporary solution but I have to seek for a proper reducing ring.

I've got to collect a project that's been standing for many years, rear tyres are very flat so I figured I'd knock up a couple using some box section I've got, and some of the casters I've saved. I spent a bit of time welding up two rectangles of box section with the intention of fixing the casters in place today. This morning I spotted four new ones on FB Marketplace, not far away, reasonably priced once we'd negotiated a bit, so went to pick them up this afternoon. They're much more sturdy than the ones I was making would have been.
