It's a good while many of us buy the same stuff.
Some of us bought a Stihl chainsaw recently,me included.
Then we bought concrete saws
Then we bought fluke laser thermometer.
I've bought a lathe and I think it's now the fifth I seen here since Monday .

Bought a Dormer die holder they call it die stock
3 hours of sleep right back home from work after 10 hours of work.
I've had just the time to take off the trousers and the shoes,sit on the couch and fell asleep in no time

^ Interesting to know, as the one that came with my USPro tap and die set finally gave up the other day, and as all the die nuts in the set are round there's no other way I can use them for anything other than cleaning slightly dirty threads. Now I know what to search for, cheers.

Yes, my next thought was that I must remember to measure it when I'm in the shed later. Given that I've been trying to remember to bring home a bottle of de-ionised water since Sunday, it'll probably be sometime next week.

You seem to be able to get hold of some nice quality tools these days, that job of yours must have picked up a bit, really pleased for you
Today it's a small-ish lathe and quality hand tools. In a few years time it'll be bigger lathes, mills and heavier metalworking machinery

Serial no 2716 colchester chipmaster i think 1963 machine and a Union pedestal grinder. Grinder is very smooth(and heavy). Both 3phase.

Lathe runs and variator is ok but it wont adjust as the on the control wheel gear doesnt mesh with the gear on the variator. Probably/hopefully simple to sort. Doesnt look like its been heavily used. You won't be disappointed, it was nine years ago (Almost to the day) I got mine.

Luckily I can't find a better picture, so you can't quite tell how bad a haircut I had as a 15 year old.

This morning I've had not enough time to give you the answer you deserve,so now I'm in weekend and I can.
Thanks for trusting me, and for what you wrote.
I often have to stop and look back to what I'm doing and what I achieved to see that little bit today and little bit tomorrow I'm achieving my goals and getting closer to other ones .
Realising my dreams.
Your post represents one of this stops because I've then thought about and see what I've done in the past few months and discovered that I'm going on right way despite all the ups and downs,all the mistakes etc which I like to call experience.
I often get stuck in negativity, looking at all the downs but forgetting all the ups .
Anyways thank you,few lines written in few minutes have a bigger meaning than what looks like.
Then we have a news, the machine shop I'm working in will last other 4 years.
Then my boss either closes, giving the shop to me and another colleague or and his son .
Or it will be bought by an external company.
Now I'm realistic and it would probably be just closed , cause the son won't ever eventually accept those come outs .
So I'm getting prepared for that, buying tools, machinery and building my workshop.
This would become a starting point if I have to open a new shop from zero ,it ain't going to be zero.

Time spent in educating oneself is never wasted.
Get a set of 'The Modern Motor Engineer' , by Arthur W Judge (amongst others ).
There's things in there that defy todays ability to imagine , when it comes to keeping things going....

Ooh that’s nice!! What size batteries do you have, I have a few 4Ah ones - I’d be interested to see how much it cuts on what size battery. I’d be tempted by one but not if I had to splash out for bigger batteries to do a decent area.

5Ah, mainly. Standards though, not Procore. I'm just hoping they haven't started adding funky circuitry to stop the biturbo gear running on standard batteries.

Unlike the Makita mower, this one isn't self-propelled, but the Makita usually chomps through approx. 8 4Ah batteries & 2 6Ah batteries to complete the cut on all three lawns. I have 4 4Ah & 2 6Ah Makita batteries. Usually have to recharge the 4Ah's to complete the cut.

I'll see how this one compares tomorrow, weather permitting.

Saturday afternoon is my usual grass cutting session.

This one is a smaller cut width than the Makita, (46cm vs 53cm), but is easier to fold the handle on, apparently, which should hopefully make it easier for me to get it onto mum & dad's lawn, (fourth lawn). The Makita is a bit of a ballache to manoeuvre up there.

Today I acquired a No5 jack plane from @My Old Landy

It's a Draper Expert copy of a Stanley.
I've been looking for a jack plane and was debating if I should get an old plane or buy new, but as this came up and it was only a £10 posted I thought I'd give it a go.
In fairness I wasn't expecting much.

However, It's brand new, never even been sharpened so I flattened and sharpened the blade and it's not half bad.

I'm no expert but I just spent an hour on the iron and chipbreaker and it can take nice shavings on a bit of rough softwood.

I didn't even flatten the sole because its pretty flat already.
It's a cheap tool made to a price but it works a treat.
Total bargain.
