A flippin' puncture, two miles from home, on a wet, debris strewn downhill narrowing winding road, after a bad SMACK into a pothole - pulled over at bottom of hill, extending wheelbrace that came with car, loosened four nuts . . sheared the brace on the fifth . . . Rang the farmer whose driveway I had pulled into, he was okay with it there . . . walked home on the flat winding narrow road . . . found suitable socket, breaker bar, length of pipe, piece of wood, hi-vis and numerous torches . . . walked back . .

Loosened the 5th nut, stood the ~Alfa jack on the piece of wood to stop it sinking in - discovered the standard jack and winding handle are not designed for use under a car - had to use end of handle into winding eye as a lever to turn it half a turn at a time . . . spacer saver on, get home. Can't see anything obvious on wheel or tyre . . . blow it up . . . 1/2" long hole in sidewall of a Vredestein 235/18 winter tyre with years of tread left . . . GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Did you take a photo of the pothole and tyre with measurements? Put a claim in to local authority

The boot on my Wife's car only has room for a space saver instead of a proper tire & wheel. We got a front tyre flat, and found that the space saver spare would not work on the front hub as it jammed the brake unit against the disc. I had to remove a rear wheel and install it on the front, then install the space saver on the rear in order for the car to be drivable again.

My MG ZS had a standard steel wheel as a spare, same problem as you, it would not fit over the front brake caliper.

but what didn't I ask ( or rather read in the ad !) it's an independent four Jaw , well is the just going to make the tinkering with the new toy a total pita. it may not get fitted

My MG ZS had a standard steel wheel as a spare, same problem as you, it would not fit over the front brake caliper.

So, its not just an isolated situation with Dorothy's Audi A1.

More Milwaukee in the form of 1/2” Router kit, packout case was quite a bit bigger than I expected. Just need need to get some 1/2” bits now although it comes with smaller size collets including 1/4”

Was over at Carrs Billington ( agri merchants ) in Hexham got a few milwaukee blades and new style hex bits to try

also a 10mm thunderweb drill bit to replace the one I snapped in me good set and while there picked up a pair of Hoggs field pro neo wellies for the young un ( he' 29 )


weren't cheap but seem good quality and if they last as long as my toggi's I'll be happy I think he will be for the warmth too .

I remember when they had a crate of those in my local surplus shop, the bottom cap had different coloured lenses in, I bought a couple to keep in the car.

No - it was dark, damp, flowing water, narrow, steep hill, cars using it irregularly.

I might take a look Friday afternoon, but a colleague had to deal with Bradford council over the same thing - damaged tyre and wheel - I'm not sure I want to be sending the amount of info they appear to require - copy of the V5, insurance details etc - for the same of a 70 quid tyre, I don't want my insurance company banging up my risk and all my policies taking a hit. Seemed very time consuming.

And then they told him it was in Calderdales area, so he's got to do it all again . . .

i've got a good tyre, but worn more than the one, in the shed - shove that on the wheel to get me through to April/May time.

Essex County Council rejected my claim for a pot hole damaged tyre. They passed the buck onto the company that resurfaced that particular stretch of road. I tried to claim off them. They replied that the Council had specified an unsuitable grade of tarmac for that corner.
Went back to the Council, they finally accepted the claim. It was only for £30 (this was 10 or so years ago). They needed the receipt. Sent in the receipt. Then the Council said that as I had paid cash I would need written confirmation that I had actually paid.
The amount of time and effort the Council spent must have cost far in excess of my claim.

The latest wheeze is if the Council haven't been informed of the pot hole by Joe Public, then the Council can't be held liable for the damage as it didn't know the pothole existed.

I heard the other day how much the local contractors get paid per pothole. Can't remember the figure as I'd had a few.

It's funny how the same potholes appear, in the same place, continuously. Sometimes after a period of heavy rain. I kid you not.

Whole system is a fit up. Down the tip you can't take any "rubbish" you see. Doesn't stop the staff putting choice bits aside though. "Cable mate? Stick it in the pile behind the scrap metal bin!"
