Today I acquired...........

I picked up a Wera torque screwdriver for 1/4-inch hex bits (adjustable from 11 to 29 inch-pounds) to replace an older torque screwdriver that I use mostly for certain types of electrical terminal/connector screws. Also got a cute little Wiha stubby magnetic 1/4-inch bit holder, which is super handy for getting into tight spots, especially for electrical work.

You've got a set of transfer punches in the drill index box in 0.5mm increments.

The black handles widgets with threads both ends are go/no-go thread standards for checking the accuracy and fitment of formed threads during QC.

Wolf Bench grinder. Has 8 inch wheels and weighs a ton and takes about a week to stop revolving after the power is turned off. Judging by the capacitor it's ancient. Think it may have been 3 phase originally but converted to run on single phase with capacitor.







No data plate and only form of ID on it is this casting number on the stand.

I had a serious sort out of screwdrivers just before Christmas which were pretty much a motley set like yours . . result nine cut off from the handles and tips for some rods of steel , two turned into punches as they were through the handle capped rods and several X points of various deniminations that were well worn& chavelled up onthe tips that went into the councils recycle bin bag along with some of the cut of handles .

Yet the three electrical engineers bladed screwdrivers I was issued as keep at the end of the Skill Center course ( 1984 ) all stamped MOD, are in perfect condition & I've stil got too many screwdrivers now I have some quality Makita 1/4 inch drive insert tips in Philips and Pozi drive heads

I did know. Could have done with one the other day adjusting some hinges here. Made a foot operated seesaw out of two screwdrivers.

A border garden spade and a bit of broom stick or pipe for the fulcrum under the blade are also good door lifters.... unless you have the metal ones made for the job .

A border garden spade and a bit of broom stick or pipe for the fulcrum under the blade are also good door lifters.... unless you have the metal ones made for the job .

All you need is approx. a 18" length of wood, & shape/curve the bottom side, so that you can press down with your foot one end, & it raises the other end. With it being wood, it doesn't risk marking the door.

I spent the weekend with my wife & her sister & husband clearing my late father in laws workshop, quite sad, loads of tools amicably shared out. Most stuff went their way after all when you have 5 stillson wrenches of various sizes why would i want 4 more? Lots of battered tools & a few good ones.
But the measuring equipment was no use to them so came my way.
So this morning i spent several hours cleaning filthy gunge off them, he had greased most things liberally which has preserved them, Took some getting off though.
And so i have aquired, 3 Sets of V Blocks, A Brown & Sharpe Height micrometer, Two scribing gauges, A mitoyu mag base with mercer clock, bore gauge, smaller bore gauge in case, thread gauges imp & metric, calipers, much small lathe tooling & boxes of drills, enough steam gland packing to fit out a fleet of locos a brass blowlamp & much more besides.
While we were there i started & ran his old Mitchell lathe to check it over. Still runs sweetly.

I was keeping an eye on Amazon and found some Japanese sellers were posting directly from Japan for very cheap price, inc post.
The first one I bought was an Impacta, and I find it makes short work of case screws that would sneer at anything else. Half a dozen light but firm taps in rapid succession using a 1 1/2lb hammer and just about anything moves, at least so far.
Was going to get more Vessel drivers (and probably still will) but other makes started appearing, so bought a set of Draper JIS, which seem ok for general use.

Have you run into any issues with importing? I've been tempted to buy a couple of things off amazon japan, but I suspect the VAT and customs charge on them would be extortionate.

It's not so much the VAT and duty, as the extortionate fees the Post Office and couriers charge you for taking your money.

Pay £5 to the government, give £10 to the Post Office
