Treated myself to a new soldering iron that automatically cools down when the iron is in its stand
Came with a Chinese plug, no CE mark and there's a label on it saying "do not touch the device casing with wet hands", so I'm going to be a bit cautious around it, but it seems good so far: heats up from cold in a couple of seconds.

If it's a metal case I'd check for earth continuity to the plug. I've seen a few shockers on Big Clives channel

Yep, first thing I tried when I got it. To be honest I'm not sure what the case is. It looks like metal but it could be plastic made to look like metal. My guess is that it's anodised aluminium: there's no continuity from case to another bit of case, let alone conductivity to anywhere else like earth. Anodised aluminium is a fairly good insulator so it's plausible that it's that, but it might be plastic that's doing a very good impression of metal!If it's a metal case I'd check for earth continuity to the plug. I'm impressed so far: I'm using it to make another cordless vacuum starter and that has some signal connections and also some gert big battery contacts that need 2 mm² (14 AWG) wire soldered on. Those battery contacts took a fair bit of time to solder with my old iron (or possibly my gas one: I can't remember what I used), but this one did it in no time. I also love how fast it heats up when you take the iron out of the stand:

Let us know how they fare. I've eyed the Bosch progressor holesaws up a few times, but could never decide whether they're worth a punt or not.

use cutting compound on them and keep the hole clear of swarf and they will cut it no probs. nice slow speed as well

Willco mate, at £84 I took a bit of a breath as well, but will hopefully see me through loads of jobs and although not the very best will be better than the garbage I have used before - I hope!

The drill bits are the only let down on those kits. I have one for work and found that oiut early on.

I find the drill goes blunt no matter what I cut or how I cut.
I now use a imperial dril to cut the hole, before I go in with the drill and hole saw.
By 20mm one is well used and still is sharp.
By 22mm sadly is dead. I droped it from the fouth floor.

Holesaws, pre drill the pilot. The use a 1/4" HSS lathe blank instead of thebpilot bit to guide it in, with plenty of lube.
It will be need constant peck drilling as holesaws have no clearance for chips. Would be much better off with a slugger type cutter... this sort

I have told our postie repeatedly. A few days ago I caught him and gave the item back.
