At tea time I acquired some fire wood.

as we can see from the cuts they were highly skilled with a chainsaw
quick story as I was leaving dinnertime to go shoot at some clays passed a house a block down with a couple of likely suspects waving a ****ty old chainsaw around and a tree in the garden , return home to see three perplexed people stood on the drive wondering what there gonna do to clear the 25' foot of path blocked with many large pieces of tree. they didn't even limb it ! just looped all the bows at around 8" to 10" dia. the trunk in three and off they went . Didn't really want to get the chainsaw and start cutting in the semi dark . so I got the big bits , may see whats there tomorrow and get some more as long as tidy up.

It's much smaller now.

I just going to keep the lump the saws on as a knocking block .

Neighbour gave me this as he hardly ever used it at work and knew I was into metal work, might not use it for a while but doesnt take up much room

A few bits, the little mini blow torch will be really handy at work for heat shrink. It’s so neat, I may take up smoking to justify buying more

I just going to keep the lump the saws on as a knocking block .

Are you going to paint the ends & edges in molten candle wax to seal the rounds ready for turning on a lathe in five or six years time.
Local wood ....I've got 8 yr old 4 inch apple branch wood , 18 month old walnut 3-4 inches thick , five year old ash , a few bits of hawthorn & 6 yr cut home grown oak all slowly air drying for lathe work . The fork of a tree can give some fantastic figuring and wood grain

Happened to go into a former " Do it all store " now called " Charlies " a couple of years ago . In the cookery section we found a cooks browning gas blow lamp for £9 . It's brilliant . Alison uses it to scorch branches on some of her bonsai trees to slowly kill off a branch so it looks like it's died & debarked naturally .
I've used it for heating 4 mm stainless wire to red hot to make a series of Long " S" hooks for hanging drying/ ripening bunches of plaited onions off the rafters in our log cabin verandah .

Whilst in Screwfix getting a 71" spirit level my Mrs noticed they had LAP 5' LAP battens on clearance for £11.99 + vat and suggested them for my new shed. Not being one to pass on a bargain, I thought it rude not to buy a pair!
My Mrs always has an eye for a bargain She also noticed the 71" spirit level came as part of a pack of 4 for £10 more and as I had a voucher for a tenner, I got the full set = result
I will post why I needed such a level on my shed thread

A Farlane brand fire retardant jacket like the one @Ubique mentioned in a previous post arrived. The size seems generous to what I would normally expect, but that's ok. It has two large inside pockets and appears to be fair value for the price. Also acquired a Moore & Wright calliper, and last night at the local chapter of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club meeting, I bid on a vintage tail box which I think will be ideal after some restoration for my old Bantam bike. While we were away over the weekend I came across an old Stenor vulcanizer frame; not something I need, but I recall one of the member's here is considering to attempt converting one into a mini english wheel, so I might take a punt at making one also; like I need more projects.

I thought so, but will need to remove the rivets and replate the straps and hasps. I have a box of round head aluminium rivets of the right size for reattaching it all back together.

On the way to and from the pub recently I've been walking past a skip which contains a few double-glazing units that have been pulled out of somewhere. On Sunday I finally remembered to go and ask if I could have them, but couldn't get an answer. Went again yesterday and found someone who said it was fine to take them. Couldn't get them into the daily driver, so I pressed one of my classics into action.

I've got a couple of broken panes in the greenhouse, a cold frame with no glass in the lid, and the rest will come in handy for spares when I put the roof back to glass from the plastic it's recently been converted to. That's presuming I can get the units to pieces without just breaking all the glass.
