Today I acquired a bargain set of 4 Dorvic machine moving skates with 2 turntables and a separate pair of B
ritish made skates. They are all the low height version and the Dorvic are rated at 15 Ton for the set which will more than handle what I need them for.

A baty mag stand with a mercer dial gauge of FBMB , I don't know why I'm no engineer although the metal botherers on this forum are starting me thinking about a crappy old lathe.even though I've (at present )no where to put one or spare cash to purchase one !

Ooh what are the boots? I just use the heatshrink with glue in.

Dan, both the boots and the expander are made by Hellerman .

The Hellerman boots are very flexible and good for things like welding leads, somewhere the cable isn't pulled about too much I don't suppose it would make much difference. I will be using them for a very long time because I bought a bucket load of them cheap in a sale.

Yes, they are white metal bearings,
I have adjusted them, scraping and shims etc, they are a lot better,
I think replacement parts may be the easier way to go,
Spindle and bearings, bed, lead screw,

I think you cannot buy just the bearings any more, you have to buy bearings & a new spindle as a set and they're not cheap!

Yes I have look into this,
Though it is surprising what can be done with some shim, even tin foil, to tighten the bearing.
I do not know whether the white metal bearings would re-shape/deform tighter around the spindle (they have quite thick side walls) with the caps fitted, more than likely not, tighter top and bottom maybe, but not in all directions, if you know what I mean.
The spindle shaft seems better now I have messed with, time will tell.
There are other worn parts that may improve its performance

My first Henry, FB dealer in Bedford, refurb with new accessories & warranty, thought £60 was pretty good. Not sure how long I can hide it in the shed before it gets nicked for the house!
Did a load of fence trellis replacement, 3" PZ2 screws, the usual bundled bits that come with carp tools skipped loads even tho all piloted, bought a set of Wera - loads better
