I currently have a Chinese one on the lathe, has been great and I have had it at least 15 years and never an issue. The problem however is it is the one I had on my Bridgeport mill and the longest scale is too short as the lathe is a long bed with 50" between centres and the scale is only 30" or so, that means I have to have a hard stop and if needing to use the full travel I need to remove the reader head fixing. What made you go for Newall over something cheaper?
The DRO is also really a Mill DRO although it does have radius mode so it can be used fine on the lathe, the drawback being if you want to enter a value in the X DRO it will enter it as double, easily solved though by pressing the 1/2 key, so no real hardship.
Why did I go with the Newall, well I liked the look of it and also it was the only kit they offered for the long bed, prob could have messed around and got longer length scales added but decided just to splash a bit of cash
