For really old leather holsters I soak them in this stuff: http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/mink-oil-liquid.htm

For a very good readily available solution Lanolin Hand Cream works well with the added bonus that after working it into the leather your hands get the benefit too.

You can’t go wrong with Aussie Conditioner IMHO. These cases are a bit leather ‘light’, similar to the old cardboard suitcases. Go crazy with oil, and you will be left with mulch.

Is that the original Trangia burner, then?

I looked at it more closely and it doesn't have the three crowns on it, so not an original, but it is stamped Trangia on the bottom. I'm not into military items, but have wanted one of these stainless cook kits since I got to use one many years ago. I know collectors are purists and want everything matching, but the kit I got has the steel pots which was important to me as I don't like aluminum for cooking or eating off of. This kit will work well for the canoe trip down the Wye river that I'm planning on for next summer.

" Neats foot oil . is what cobblers & stable hands used to use to soften & rejuvenate hard leather before soft soaping it . Glycerine can also be used but stays sticky & attracts moisture .

Today [well y/day, but I was away] and a big thanks to Charlie [@Chillitt] I received these - another supply of pistons for my clock-making. I'm away for virtually all of next week, but a date with the u/sound cleaner is on the cards once I get the bits separated.

It's just that I was wondering if the Trangia burner originated as Swedish military issue, which would be nice.
My cooking camp kit consisted of a Trangia burner on its own and two dixies, with a hexamine burner to fall back on if desperate. Once you get used to the stink and horrible taste of the hexamine tablet, it's not too bad.
