Dragged it to the back and went for it, the Mrs was in a proper grump so it’s a good job I’m away for 5 days now she might just simmer off.

Almost took my shin out swinging it off the tailgate straight on to a waiting wheel board now in situ waiting for me to put some power in to it, although I may have to beef up the 19” rack it’s sat on currently

On the overnight boat from Liverpool to Dublin tonight to collect two 20’ containers from a power station tomorrow morning, then a steady tootle up to Larne, stopping on the way to stock up with a bottle or 3 of Jameson’s as
OH is partial to the Irish stuff .

And having learnt from bitter experience, I’ll park up for a while as soon as I disembark at Cairryn. The last thing I want is to be chased down the A75 by Irish truckers , mad as fish the lot of ‘em...

mine never come with the right hose conector as the twit shop i bought it from could not find the box that was suposed to come with it i said ok leave it with you i only work down the road i see the staff most days just pop in and tell me
week later i pop in there remind them about it to an other member of staff all had a chat about it said will leave it with you let me know
another week later i pop in have a chat say about the box bloke shouts to a mate in the back he reponds oh was that a gray box i asked about 3 days ago did any one know about this box its gone in the bin

any how i got mine for £10 plus a handle from china £2 and the hose connecter fits with abit of duct tape round a henry hover connector fits nice and snugg

Today I acquired a ride on a recovery lorry.
Engine does not want to convert fuel into go go motion.

The orange team of recovery were fantastic from start to finish.

Now I wait.

That’s what timber baskets are for isn’t it? Acquired quite a few useful lengths of steel, timber for casings, and wood for burning.

They think putting alloy wheels on the new unit to save weight will increase their payload I didn’t let out a chuckle in the office when they came up with that, much

I definitely acquired the Sunbeam today, its off and in the workshop. I started it and thats it. Throttle is sticky, carb drips, bars are loose. So needs showing a bit of TLC and a spanner or two.

It looks proper well on the back of the Pickup

Timber baskets are ok until you start acquiring steel that’s anything up to 10 metres long . And I even get the fitters to saw it up for me so’s it will fit in my van .

As for payload, I’ve got a 40’ rear steer on today and I’m 30 tons empty , and it’s always worse on a Monday morning when he fridge/freezer is full of nice food . (Coupled to a double extender, payload is just shy of 10 tons...)

Lifting gear had its 6 monthly LOLER Inspection a few weeks back, we use a company from Middlesbrough who come to the yard and do all the Hiab trucks over a weekend, we just lay the gear out at the front of the wagon on the preceding Friday night. The Boss walked past my wagon, saw the gear and smiled while shaking his head, “Martyn, take this as a compliment when I say I’m quite confident that if I sent you to load the bow of the Titanic, you’d manage it!”

Knights in shining armour one and all, and I’m quite happy to admit that I wouldn’t want to do what they do. Recovering a vehicle when traffic is hurtling past at stupid speeds is not for me, so they have my respect.
