Can you get the any of the collars that screw onto the ram and modify that if you can’t make a steel one.

When I made my press using one of those 10T rams, I turned up a steel flange as thick as the threads are long and bored and screwcut it to take the ram. I bolted the flange under the top beam of the press.
No pics as the press is at my parents, but can get one next week.

The plastic is as you say a protective cover.

To my shame , I've yet to master the art of screw-cutting, this despite have the full set of gears etc to do it, and the chart showing which gear set goes where for different pitch threads.

There's a little backlash in the top slide which I want to eliminate first, well that's my excuse.....

Back to the thread topic, today these turned up - three boxes containing the jigsaw that is the Quorn cutter/grinder which @gaz1 so thoughtfully directed me to .

Very carefully packed by the Seller and I've decided not to do much with it until I've had a read of the manual to see what's what. I have a number of 'nearly finished' projects on the go [I'm sure some of you will know that feeling ] so want to clear my feet of them before starting with the Quorn.

I finished the gas bottle 'tyre-pumper-upper' this morning and apart from a very slight leak from one of the connectors which I'll replace in time, it works perfectly as I planned - I'll just turn the air off at the bottle valve between uses and get round it that way for the moment.

I unwrapped a couple of the individually packed bits and from looking at those I reckon the chap who made/built it knew what he was about - once I identify all the parts it should be a case of a clean up and assembly job. Happy chap, me!!









I'll put them to one side for the moment until I get time to draw breath. I think I'm all 'machined out' now as I reckon I've got all I should need in that respect for a lifetime......only I have no excuses for not being able to make/repair/refurbish anything.

Could you not make a sleeve for it to slide into?? And hold the base of the ram, thick wall gas pipe and a decent cap piece. That way can still remove the ram if needed.

Yer like my Drummond does not have any back lash in my dreams.
Seriously it is not difficult just take your time and practice making threads to match on a bit of scrap, do trial fits on the ram with the threaded flange still in the four jaw.
Plenty of threading videos including some from John (Double Boost) on the interweb.
