Nice easy job for the lathe. When I made my press using one of those 10T rams, I turned up a steel flange as thick as the threads are long and bored and screwcut it to take the ram. I bolted the flange under the top beam of the press.
No pics as the press is at my parents, but can get one next week.
The plastic is as you say a protective cover.

, I've yet to master the art of screw-cutting, this despite have the full set of gears etc to do it, and the chart showing which gear set goes where for different pitch threads.

Plus:Only the linisher, the weather vane, the hydraulic bench press, clocks, horseshoe things etc to get on with now........

Plus:
Washing, ironing, food, sleeping, all the other stuff humans do.

View attachment 174484 Went and collected the last three of six steel plates today. 900x1000x50. Won’t need to buy any for awhile . Price I paid for 6 was less than one from Parker’s....
There's a little backlash in the top slide which I want to eliminate first, well that's my excuse.....
Unless he's like me, I'm sure he'll have a woman for sorting most of that.

Nope, had one years ago - that didn't work out too well in the end.
