I've dug the boxford headstock out of the scrap, and bought an xy cross slide. I'm thinking a frame from a bit of rsj, swivel base for the cross slide. Not sure how to do height adjustability or holding the tooling yet. Collet chuck sounds an expensive way, but I can't see much choice.
A pic or two would be good, when you get a moment.

There was a Vincent comet 500cc single for sale over here for ages, no one bought it, the seller wanted £3,500 for it. I was considering buying it, but then dropped the idea. It must be worth 3 or 4 times that now. Your 650 for £40, it must be worth 200 times that now.

Getting he mixer on the stand

Had a bit of a mixer disaster when I was putting the shed floor down when the mixer seized, but all better now as I've scrounged an electric one off Freecycle. No stand, but its a Belle like my old one so I'll use that. Its an old one so there's loads more metal in it, could be a bit of a scort to get it up on the stand...

Getting the mixer on the stand is easy . Tip the mixer on the mouth of the barrel , assemble the stand , offer the stand cut outs to the mixer's axle .


There should be a clip or sliding bold arrangement on the stand table ( where the wheels sit ) to lock the mixer to the stand .

When it is clipped or if no device is present securely lash it together ( lightweight ratchet straps ? ) . Stand at the handles and pull back on the handles , the mixer should pivot towards you to the upright with very little effort .. Belle Mix used to shaw a slip of a gal about 19 yrs old pulling up their mixers .. don't to the brickies / labourers thing of busting your gut doing it by lifting to the stand height & putting it on the stand by yourself .

You can walk the mixer a bit on two legs when it is in the fixed mode if needed. Don't forget to undo the clip or lashing before using the mixer .

Taking the mixer off the stand is the reverse of putting it on , do it under control .....it's an easy one person event .. I'm 80 % disabled and can still put or take our Belle Mix off the stand by myself .

I've already got one, 10mm stainless top about 1200 x 1200mm... Lucky it's stainless as the Garage of Danger is a bit cramped and it has to live outside

yes we have all done it if only we could have seen in to the future my bruv sold his Goldstar beeza for 40 quid and I could have bought a manx Norton rolling chassis for £100 00

Yeah, I know the principle, it's just that this one seems to weigh a lot more than the other one. I suspect there is something going on with the frame as it has little to no ground clearance when trying to wheel it about, and it sits back quite a lot. Will be giving it a good looking at before hoying it up on the stand.

Still stand up as dapph suggested. Will grab picsnof the old style stand if that will help.

It's normal for there to be little clearance . Only set up on flat ground or a several thicknesses of 19 mm construction ply etc .to make a levelled platform.

Tip the mixer a bit forward as you introduce the stand to the axle , then let it sit back , then gently lift the stand's cut outs up so it rotates a bit on the axle so you can put the locking clip / bolt in place .

Another way is to put the lip of the barrel up on a pair of bits of same size timber to raise it up a few inches , but I don't recommend that as it means finding two bits of wood big enough . Bung up a picture of it sideways on and looking from the back below the barrel


Anotehr way is to sit the mixer on it's wheels & back legs graps the barrel and give it a sharp tug anticlockwise . . the barrel then unscres . take th barrel off the frame . lift the frame on the stand , then put he barrel back on don't give it a hard seating or it will be hard to undo nesxt time .


Spitting it down like that means you can often put the dismantled mixer in the back of a fairly small car .

I think I have both types of stand here somewhere but this mixer and the old one are the other sort to the one in the video. much the same process though

I know a guy that used to build the stand up and just lifted the mixer onto the stand, he was a big lad though.

Scimitars never have been, and don't show any signs of being, worth much, so no need to kick yourself over missing it.
A totally overlooked classic that never shed its association with the plastic pig. Reliant really missed the ball when they didn't set up another brand name to sell them under.
Toyota learned from that.

I recently moved two fifteen drawer filing cabinets from my workshop to the house, they hold over a ream of paper in each drawer, goodness me they were heavy and cumbersome to move... (they were empty)

Which got me wondering, how the hell did I ever pinch them from the skip in the first place, given I had to climb in and re-shuffle all the tables dumped on top, then carry them 500m up a hill to my studio... I suppose if it’s free you do it, no matter the cost!
