I usually buy the poundstore 'Alraldite' knockoff for my arrow tips but I also got a glue gun today, never used a hot glue gun so I don't know if the adhesive is good.

Below the glue are some lathe freebie bits..

This 1966 Union Graduate lathe. I got it home with a friend in a people carrier, dismantled of course. It’s heavy but quite easy to manhandle, the column being the only bit that needs two people. It came with of chisels, four face plates including a big one (think it’s a 16”) all the tool rests and some homemade jobbies, the proper cast cover for the spindle, the lovolite and support, and a four jaw chuck. Oh, and they gave me a box of morse taper spurs, centres and a drill chuck, a huge 1.5” 2mt drill bit, and a box of wood turning books. I’m over the moon. I’ll put better pics up at the weekend.

Nice one! A very highly sought after woodturning lathe over here; most put in a variable speed drive.

I'm primarily a woodturner; it was wanting to make tools and rests etc. that got me into welding too!

A couple could be gauges, one looks like a tailstock die holder. If you post pics of the specific ones, I'm sure the Collective will be able to give positive IDs.

Yes, some of them are die holders but do not have a tapered shank, needs further investgation when I have time

Had to tell her it's not a DESK it's a workbench.

The 3 wood planes.



All 3 have bean cleaned up, all have the Name Edwards stamped on all the parts. The manufacture name is to badly damaged to read, but they are or were Glasgow based.



This one needed the most work done on the wood. The damaged to the handle has bean repaired and stained to blend in the new exposed wood. The blade needed a new cutting angle put on to it and away it went.



This one needed a lot of work done on the metal parts. Re-ground the blade, new cutting angle was done to it. The cap iron was all but done for. But a friend helped with that and brought it back from the grave.




This one was cleaned in a warm solvent bath, a quick trip to wire brush land and all was good.

All now can be used for wood working, but I plan to move them on.



The roofers axe, the one with the split.
The head was brazed up and that crack filled. This showed on the other side was another crack, that again was filled with braze.
The Shaft is stained with black coffee, strong brew. It has also bean steeped in Linseed oil.

The damage means it will never be used again, but the fun was the repair.

Not today, maybe a month or two back I fished this out the scrap skip at work, used to be one piece (someone will probably know what it was). Base is 10mm and will make a nice temporary/mobile welding bench for the time being. Castors removed tonight and I'll attach it with the 9" grinder to get the remains of the uprights off tomorrow.
Drum, well it's ali, but I think I might try a patio burner, see if it's thick enough to stand up to it.

And then there's this, Grandpa came up the road for august to stay with the folks while my Aunt and uncle were away (he's 96, still at home but needs a bit of help with shopping and things). He brought this up for me, he had always planned for me to have it and decided now was the time.

Story goes that he swapped something for it with a German commando at the end of the war (he was RAF), when he got home Grandma's dad thought it was to dangerous so broke the tip off
The Luger Pistol he brought back was thrown in a river many many years ago (before my time), it's difficult to get much out of him about this stuff, he doesn't talk about the war but I'm happy to have it. Also only found out during this visit that he had been a test pilot on the Barracuda, our attempt at a dive bomber, he said it wasn't very successful.

Having thought some more, could this be from an early gramophone , the narrow end may have fitted to bottom of the hollow arm that held the needle and resonator and the horn end underneath in the cabinet , a sort of built in amp ,

Glass fibre pick axe shaft. Ex display stock, so one side is faded a bit compared to the other.



Not for the old one waiting to be restored, doesn't fit. But for the others ones I have.

That's as I got it, so no chance to see if there are any names or marks on it.



I was working on a site today. I like the site, they have a good staff canteen and it sells good food for reasonable prices.
As I was getting my paper worked signed off I made a joke to the owner:
"Those 2 IBC out back, take £10 for them?"
His answer:

"Show me you brown queens paper and they need to be gone by 8am"
I have just returned from a trip to collect them.
