I wish people wouldn't use 120x80 pallets for bits of machinery
120x100 is far more stable and certainly for UK shipping makes no difference in price. You can save a bit for International shipping but not much difference!
Also you are far more likely to get damage when an item is right up to the edge or worse when it overhangs.

Bit of skip diving today and came away with a lovely haul (and a tiny fraction of the number of useful bits that were in the skip):

This is a bit of 75 mm diameter aluminium. Once all the machined features have been cut off, it'll be a bit over 110 mm long:

Then there's all this lot:

The long bar is 30 mm diameter 303 (I'm guessing based on the paint colour on the end), about 600 mm long. The rest is aluminium. The square ones are 36 mm thick and a bit over 150 mm on each side with no machining marks apart from on one face; the rectangular ones are 30 mm thick and 235 × 175. The round one is mostly a bit over 100 mm diameter and about 40 mm long.

That should feed my machining habit for a day or two...

I acquired several things

1. A strong 4m2 of stone flags for about a third of commercial value, and from a mates back garden so not nicked
2. A cyclone for my dust extractor with 100mm connections. Usually silly money and plastic but Axminster have started doing them in powder coated steel for a reasonable amount. I was going to make one eventually. I bought a big old oil drum with a sealed lid for it to sit on too.
3. A watch, well new to me. A bit extravagant as it cost 400 quid, its second hand (pardon the pun) and just about mint. New cost is 700 and its only 4 months old.
4. 2 new 3 phase sockets in the workshop so less trailing leads
5. A working pellet boiler for the workshop, needed a new igniter.

Today I acquired a replacement LED batten for one of mine [bought in November but not installed until early Dec] which made a bid for freedom, breaking one of its support clips and launching itself floorwards, only to be arrested by the power cable - in revenge it blew the power supply to the shed.

I'd called Wickes last week to report this and was given the old "you'll need to contact the manufacturers" guff by a young Staff Member. Thinks me..."I'm not having that..."

So, having girded my loins and armed with proof of purchase and the offending fitment I headed to Wickes to do battle...you know the "but under Consumer Rights legislation" etc I set out to do battle with a Duty Manager. She couldn't have been more helpful and brought a replacement straight, so kudos to Wickes Inverness.

I once bought a central heating programmer from wickes it had been opened and taped back up went to fit it and someone had nicked the battery out of it phoned the shop up and told them and they said we will give you another. point being I said id loose time taking it back and would loose money on the job . they sent someone out with the new one to my job that was service

Wickes are normally very good at returns as long as you have the recipe. I know most of the staff at the two shops near me as I'm in there every week buying stuff. I even returned a few bags of unused plaster a while ago! I didn't think they would take it.

Just the speakers, I've had the amp years

Swmbo deemed my floor standers inappropriate when I moved here and they have been in the loft ever since, saw these for a good price and had to have them

Bi wired, pseudo bi amped in fact

All fed from this tiny dac, was going to spend much more but this one has rave reviews and it certainly delivers

I'm very very happy with the sound, they dont have the bass of floorstanders or a 15" behind a bass scoop but the depth and clarity is amazing, considering they were £120....

Currently still a bit tight but all speakers break in over time

I could waffle on but I'm no audiophile, I just like music to sound good, maybe a £250 usb lead will improve it further

As ever I looked at many many options but kept coming back to Wharfedale.

I realised looking at my own pic I had a tweeter out of phase, subtle difference but I can tell now its swapped back

They are breaking in and opening up nicely, might stretch their legs tomorrow night
