You will have to modify the control wiring. VFDs do not like having their output disconnected when live. You will let the magic smoke out. However, it's well worth having the VFD.
Great advice.Thank you. You might have saved me some money and grief there. I did a bit of reading up on vfds last night. As a short term economy measure I will fit a vfd directly to the motor as its is. I believe it will run with some reduced fuctionality. I'd add a link but im typing this from a phone. I think I can get the same torque but at a reduced running speed. That will allow me to get the mill running and allow me to have a play.Will get the motor looked at at a later date. Theres a good thread on here about pulling out the star points on a motor but I'll leave that to someone who knows what they're doing.
