I was going to say surely you remembered but I suppose you were only a wee sprog at the time

My ancestors were supposed to have had Claypotts castle and more recently a few of my relations were jute mill owners, I even remember being in Great Uncle George's house as a sprog and wondering in amazement at all the artefacts, my favourite, which would be frowned upon now, was a painted bronze child of colour that you put a coin on his hand, twisted his ear and the hand would move and deposit said coin in its mouth. It was almost as big as me, I would have been about 4 or 5 I suppose.
The other side of my family owned a boat builders yard and others were people of money in far flung foreign parts.
That was the closest we ever got to being monied people

Wife and I have seen one of those little money eating boys on some antiques show , can't remember but three/ four years ago.

I can't see Hogmanay written without thinking of that episode of Still Game where they kept getting barred from the local lol.

Today I went to the annual August bank holiday Monday farmers auction & car boot sale at the local village hall hoping there might have been something unusual from the usual tat you so often find at boot sales in a run down community . Not being able walk much I took the car the 360 mtrs from my place to the venue .. Oh my !… why did I bother ? Three small stalls outside full of professional booters tat and animal feed being sold out the back of a horse box .

Inside the hall a bored group of people actually trying to auction to 15 rather eldery folk the sort of stuff Ardy & any sane person would reject .. asking prices started at £5 …. I didn't see a single thing sold in the 15 min I was there . Did see a very rusty rabbiting plane full of wood worm holes barely held together by the odd bits of wood fibres .

Came home , my lass peeled nine potatoes , I turned them into 2 mm thick potato slices on the mandolin slicer thing , then made them into crisps using the deep fryer plugged in outside where it was a bit cooler than indoors . Got about ten packets worth of golden brown large thin crisps before I'd used up the thin sliced spuds .. so the day hasn't been entirely a total waste

Likely 2005 then, whether the 3m means the 3rd month I am not sure.
How would you say it compares to modern cheap lids?
I know the very first auto lid I got (20 plus years ago) , an Esab if I recall, was great at the time but compared to even the cheap stuff nowadays it was poor.

The only other auto I've got is an Esab Warrior, I'll have a go with both of them next month when I get home.
