My grandad on my mother’s side (allegedly the posh side), got sent to prison for diddling the Parish, legging it with the money, and leaving my grannie, my mother and my auntie (both toddlers), without a penny to live off.

Apart from that, pretty quiet, boring really.

The only label I can see is 3M 2005 ??

Likely 2005 then, whether the 3m means the 3rd month I am not sure.
How would you say it compares to modern cheap lids?
I know the very first auto lid I got (20 plus years ago) , an Esab if I recall, was great at the time but compared to even the cheap stuff nowadays it was poor.

More brass , some should be ok for projects. Including some small weights ; one

ounce to quarter ounce and a couple of 30mm Aden cannon shells.

Saw a sturdy B&D bench grinder for sale on Facebook marketplace and enquired. When I went to pick it up it was an old boy who was clearing out a friends workshop and said he had a box of grinding wheels and a dressing wheel that I could have to go with it. There were 10 wheels in there along with a couple of adaptors and a big old wire wheel. Half of the wheels are Norton. No idea what the big “universal” wheel fits on.

He only wanted £25 for the grinder and was willing to chuck the rest in for free so I gave him £30 as that’s all I had on me and we were both happy

My ancestors were supposed to have had Claypotts castle and more recently a few of my relations were jute mill owners, I even remember being in Great Uncle George's house as a sprog and wondering in amazement at all the artefacts, my favourite, which would be frowned upon now, was a painted bronze child of colour that you put a coin on his hand, twisted his ear and the hand would move and deposit said coin in its mouth. It was almost as big as me, I would have been about 4 or 5 I suppose.
The other side of my family owned a boat builders yard and others were people of money in far flung foreign parts.
That was the closest we ever got to being monied people

Universal wheel might be for a Viceroy Sharpedge so similar;

Quite a slow turning safe machine, pretty common in schools.

Today I acquired two cylinders that will hopefully replace the knackered one on my Chiron and also replace the other which although still working it is likely to fail as it is over 30 years old.

Chiron wanted £1300 for one but these were just over £100 each.

Great great grand dad thought of it , Great grand dad earnt it , grand dad reckoned he could carry on with it , dad was spoilt & p 'ed it up against the wall , son signs on the dole .

May well have been, except the last bit. The only time I ever saw my Dad take a drink was at weddings or Hogmanay. (and never to excess)
