Justshown the guy around who services and replaces the fire extinguishers and blankets - he had to replace a fire blanket where the plastic box had UV damage so looked faded, I asked what his company did with the ones that were taken away. "We skip em all" well not today hedidnt ended up with six all unused but in tatty boxes, make great welding screens and machine covers. Pays to be helpful sometimes.

Tapping head arrived today.
Seems to function as it should
Need to make a bar to lock the body and machine a 1" shank to fit the capstan tailstock and a r8 collet.
Not as useful on the lathe as it won't reverse but takes some of the panic out of power tapping.

Yes I was looking at a "Fizzy" Yamaha FS1E the other day 50cc in standard trim for sale at 5K!!!!!! I think mine was only £700 out of the showroom back in the day

Prefered the AP50 to the fizzy.
Paid a fiver for mine and destroyed it on the fields during my childhood.

Bought one of these co-axial indicators, for finding the centre of holes or bosses, or centre punch marks in a milling machine. Its the usual Chinese made stuff, but seems well made and it works very well, i had a play with it and it does what it says on the tin.

I had one (XPG 603N) new, cost just over £100, crashed through a neigbour’s fence within 100yds of getting on it and spent the night in Guildford A&E having gravel scrubbed out of my arm without anaesthetic. Sad thing was I’d been riding trials bikes for three years by then so was not new to it

Just a quick mini review of these now I’ve had chance to use them both.
The soldering iron. It’s lighter than it looks even with a 2A battery fitted but obviously not as slim as a conventional soldering iron. It did feel a bit awkward at first but you soon got used to it especially when it bends in the middle. There is control for the heat other than on or off but it was plenty sufficient for both jobs I did on the car and garden lighting. The led light is great at illuminating what your working on. As is the red light to tell you the tip is still hot after switching off. Battery life running off a 2A battery was pretty good too.
Downsides, the green light to tell you the iron is ready to solder is optimistic and it was nowhere near ready to transfer any heat with the chisel bit fitted and probably took twice as long to get to a workable temperature. I previously used a gas soldering iron which was great for heat shrink but this doesn’t have any attachment that managed to find yet.
Compared to the gas soldering iron it’s hotter and more stable when working outside.
The Sub Compact torque gun. God I love this thing. It’s not anywhere near the power of the big Hi Torque gun I have but it fits so easily into tight areas and speeds up working on the cars. It barely weighs anything either so you have lots of control over it when your reaching up at something that’s a stretch. 3 modes of speed and torque and an auto off mode for tightening. This last mode detects when a bolt is tight enough and switches off to prevent over tightening. Doesn’t seem to be any impacts in this mode either so works like a ratchet drive, which is great too as I no longer have that on my shopping list. The trigger control is light and linear for control. Battery life has been good. I thought I might need a 6A battery to run it but using 2A batteries has been fine and with the smaller battery it maintains its compactness.
