The sign in the shop said ‘rolled gold ladies watch’.

Well guess what, it’s solid gold! 9K with assay marks for Glasgow and a date stamp of 1927. It’s a Swiss watch, Mimo brand. Can’t go wrong there for $10!

Actually last month but this was first drive. Quick trip up road, glorious weather, nice meal. Came out of café and a group of admirers stood round it .
It's a pre series 1935 Morris 8. Original paintwork and interior. looks and sounds gorgeous.View attachment 180344

Lovely, are you joining one of the local car clubs? The Masterton VCC is really good, run by a really nice couple who also have the Pointon Motor Museum which is well worth a visit

...(after 3 years of rolling my van and OH’s car forward by all of 3 feet to open the up and over door, and almost blocking the footpath in the process), a pedestrian door in my man-cave. Just spoke to OH who says the builder has done a grand job, especially cutting out for the bottom of the new doorway, which I reckon started life as a stone wall and is well over a foot thick!

No more messing about moving vehicles when I get home on a Friday night/Saturday dinner, now I can go straight out of the kitchen door and into the workshop to practice my manly pursuits. And as a bonus, my wazzock of a neighbour will have no idea I’m in there. I swear blind he listens for the up and over door opening so he can attempt to borrow something/ask me if I wouldn’t mind fetching a bed that he’s bought from somewhere in Newcastle/tell me all about his latest “girlfriend” that he’s met via the internet/show me the latest litter of kittens his cat has had/talk to me in an unintelligible northeastern accent, etc, etc.

I predict workshop based bliss from now on

Still, it will be nice to ride up and down this stretch without stressing the suspension or rattling my teeth out. The road had been ok for years until one of the farmers up the back struck a deal with a developer in the small town to take thousands of tons of earth which he used to fill in a dip. Over a few months, there were overloaded 30-ton dumpers horsing up here about every twenty minutes for five, six days a week - and going back empty by another road. Their return leg was on much better roadways that would probably have withstood the strain, if they'd done the journey the other way around there wouldn't have been a problem.
Anyway, the first winter after that assault, the road just fell to bits, and it's been patched-and-filled constantly since, making it a hellhole.

At the weekend actually, a bandsaw that’s seen better days. Do have to wonder though,if the previous owner would still have been so quick to get rid of it if he knew that the broken pivot arm was redesigned and is still available for £28? Parts pile cost just on £100 so really cannot complain,as these badge engineered saws are £1500 new ...
