Today I acquired...........

I've been on my usual winter downer, not helped by a lingering cold but today I'm happy!

I bought these from my local auction, they came from a factory clearance & were sold as seen.

I get on well with the staff & they don't mind if I have a poke around on non viewing days. I had tried out the compressors & both the motors did bee impersonations - just hummed but didn't move.

I whipped off the motor covers & discovered one capacitor completely blown & the other slightly bulged.

I took a chance & bought both, one for repair/resale & the other for the men's shed.

After spending a few hours today queuing & getting shoved around doing some last minute xmas shopping I was in a rotten mood. Once I got home I went out to give the compressors a quick try, found some suitable capacitors, crossed my fingers & switched them on.

Well they only blinking work! I had feared the start windings might be fried but both are sweet as a nut.

The 50l one is a real peach, you hardly know its running. It is a 3hp unit with a 13cfm cast iron barrel pump with everything working perfectly, I think this would be more suitable for the mens shed, being more compact & quiet.

The 150l one is a bit noisier as it currently has no inlet filter & need a bit of tidying. The pump is a 14 cfm alloy unit & is running perfectly. I might keep this one & sell my other one, I'll have to decide when I've got it running perfectly.

Needless to say I'm a lot happier than I've been for weeks!

Nipped into local recycling centre for a shelf unit for wifes cook books. Came out with a couple of rum glasses and a massive pile of Practical Classic mags. In my defence, wife likes a drop as well.

I will be building some kind of cabinet but I haven't decided exactly what yet. My initial idea was the three drivers I've got + a pair of tweeters, active crossover* and seperate amps all in one big heavy box as a 2.1 stereo kind of arrangement but now I'm leaning more towards seperate left, right and sub boxes as it could be slowly expanded into a surround sound set up. Very early stages so far, it's really going to depend on what comes up on eBay for prices I like.

*As I said, it's something to play with, an active crossover is just more dials to turn. I might even go for a miniDSP, unlimited dials for the fiddling!

Minidsp is awesome, used them on some monster car builds. One warning, once you go active be very very careful, it’s easy to fry a mid or even a mid bass with the wrong crossover, ribbon tweeters also vaporise quite easy....

Scraped a set of rotor blades off an Autogyro the other day. So I cut the straightest bits off, to use for god knows what.

Then I thought i could mill strips off and use like spokes of a wheel to go in the top fuel drag tyre Id like to make into a coffee table

If they're long enough you could make spoilers for cars out of them.

A good haul was had. Plus not one chugger had their bucket shoved were the sun shine not.



Eclipse hacksaw, 2 screwdrivers (1 with handle) Small RS Screwdriver with 4 bits(Green Thing) 1 scraper and one engraving tool.



£1 Bosch Jig saw, why not.

This one is a RN Chipping hammer, used for chipping rust from ships. Every good "Dabto" had one.
What gives it away the stamping on it.
