I open Cookson Gold to get some polishing compound and suddenly I've spent nearly two hundred quid. :ashamed:

It's all good stuff, got my polishing mops and compound, a little bag of cubic zirconias to practice setting, and some burrs to set them with. The Lindstrom shears are about twice as big as I expected but still a massive improvement over a pair of Gilbows. In the bottom left is a Vallorbe cut 6 escapement file, so fine the teeth are barely visible without magnification. The dividers are a bit naff, but they were only a few quid, I had a look around and no one seems to make a decent pair.

For the price, I doubt they're any better, it will be the same crunchy threads and weird ugly knurling. Realistically the ones I've got will be fine once I sharpen the tips properly, I'm just being fussy and comparing them to old school Moore & Wright or Starrett.

Some of the antique marine / draftsmen dividers on eBay have lovely fine easy running threads. I have such a set that cost me under a £10 er .
