Some bfo 3ft tyre levers...
we had a struggle last week when we did the set of tyres on a mate's old car with the 12'' ones, plus I'll have to have a go at some Land Rover tyres shortly anyway so may as well get tooled up. I've also ordered a third,even longer, one with slightly different hooky bits on the end so should be sorted.
Years ago I made some massive tyre levers out of old leaf springs and scaff tube, but unfortunately those are long gone / disappeared.

Was involved in building one, in the yearly 2000's.

It fired a 3 foot bolt through 12 sheets of 12mm ply at 300m.

Opps we may of got it a bit wrong.

Oooh thats a good deal, quite jealous. What are you brazing on soft jaws? I see people use them on surface grinder mag chucks to pull parts of straight up without scratching the part or the chuck.

I've not decided exactly how to do it yet, but I want some ring bending pliers, so similar jaws to these:



They're readily available but all look pretty cheap and nasty so I'm making my own. My plan is some kind of drilled/tapped attachment plate so I can change the jaw type should I ever think of something else useful. I've made custom pairs for special purposes at work before but brazed the new jaw straight on rather than made it interchangeable.

I've got the Fiat 126p one...
Unfortunately there are no body panels assembly sequence in it but it's pretty complete about mechanics and electrical

Picked up some 3m u channel and i beam for 100, time to make a skid steer log splitter attachment like so

Have you considered turning it by 90 so it's going across. If you put the splitter ontop in a tray then a pair of forks and you can scoop up logs, crowd it back and rolls in for splitting.

Those style though tend to have a saw on the end as well for processing rather than just splitting.

A battery impact driver, courtesy of @WvW on here.

Seems to work well, I have an air one (but that means turning the compressor on and waiting for it to fill) and a mains one (that means dragging an extension across the floor) so a battery one will be handy as long as I remember to keep the battery charged. I don't use them a lot, but it wasn't expensive. When I bought my mains one (it's from Lidl) I intended to buy the battery one, but my local Lidl didn't have any, only the mains operated ones, and as I needed one for a job, I went for it.

Nice and shiny next to my ten year old pair. They'll be getting dismantled, machined and brazed for a higher purpose shortly.

I've got a pair of those in my toolbox. Really nice grips and having flat faces its nice not mangling up nut faces with them

Ive got something similar on my jcb, but I put it on the back bucket so it runs across but facing down. You can drop the splitter onto whole rounds on the floor, pick them up using it like a pinch then split them over a container without having to get out the cab. I used a commercial vertical splitter and just bypassed its controls, welded some mounting ears on to suit the jcb, and run it on the bucket craw service.
I have to rebuild mine now though, because I bent the spine on some really tough old rounds that weren't green and the foot end twisted around. Would have been better off just making it all from scratch like your doing!

Yea have seen those style but thinking the straight out is easier for reaching logs in tight spaces plus you can see it a lot easier than something tucked up against the arms. Also I'm gonna use some angle to brace from the attachment area top edge to partway down the 2m of beam so it can also be used as a boom lift something like this for example.

Might do something like this if the reinforcement angle doesn't interfere for use with forks

I'd started to reply to you about the vice yesterday, but then sent you a pm in a new window as it ended up being a bit long and about cam software, cnc milling machines and z axis touchoffs and collisions when using clamps.
Today I quoted bki's post and the original reply to you appeared also as a multiquote so I deleted just that part, but it was logged by the forum software as a reply to you also.


@Bk, I get you on the orientation, I was considering using the forklift to run the splitter at first, except its got warehouse solid tyres and gets stuck easy but something like this would suit that well made with fork slots to make it easy to pick up quick. Maybe if I ever end up with a rough terrain forklift... Also worth pondering attachment methods & if you have a qd hitch on your digger or skidsteer making it use them, because its a shame to dedicate a multipurpose machine to just do one job
I have the jcb one mounted so I can knock the two bucket pins out and take it off after detaching hydraulic lines, same as swapping rear buckets or a hydraulic hammer.
A lot of the machine attachment wood processing rigs round here have forestry winches mounted on them so they can drag the log into a easy workarea rather than trying to get into tight places to grab it.

On your reinforcement, I did similar after the first time I had problems with the foot starting to break off, so I added the triangle gussets at the rear and also at the lower edge to stop the foot being pried off or going out of square in both dimensions, and it helped a LOT with strength. Once the foot was attached and braced well, I then found the next weak point, the already mentioned strength of the main ipn the original builders had used. It was smaller than the one you have pictured and just a commercial 8t vertical splitter adapted and you are bracing the anvil section with the plate that mounts the framehead, so hopefully you wont have similar. Their original foot attachment design lasted about 10 minutes...
The postmortem suggested the splitting head had worked pretty loose on the flanges and bent its bolts holding it together after about 10hrs of heavy work and started to be forced out of parallel to the beam in use and also the foot still flexing a bit on really solid rounds caused a twisting motion leading to lateral torsional buckling of the beam which their rating is lower for.
I'm contemplating the spare jcb jackleg I have as a basis for the next iteration, big thickwall square tubes that telescope inside each other, sized to support a 8t machine and the ram itself living completely inside out of harms way with the foremost hydraulic connection piped inside alongside the ram away from danger. Plus I have a spare one torched off a dead machine already...

Done a bit of stealth logging on my way home from work yesterday and got three nights worth of logs in five minutes…..
