Bit of fighting with tyre levers, couple of patches on the tube and it'll be right. Even has a loader to save trying to jack it up, as long as the wheel nuts undo.
Does it turn like tufnol (i.e. cotton/cellulose fibre impregnated) or does it turn like plastic?Mystery bar stock.
On first glance I had assumed that it was nylon but after making a cut it appears to be a resin impregnated rod, similar to tufnol but without the characteristics smell. At least all the tufnol I have ever caught stinks to high heaven. Any other suggestions or collective wisdom on what this might be?
I have a fair bit of it.

But that's the most important bit! It's only flat on the bottom.

I think it is a BKT brand, I'll take it up the road to a guy with a tyre machine which should make it easierBit of fighting with tyre levers, couple of patches on the tube and it'll be right. Even has a loader to save trying to jack it up, as long as the wheel nuts undo.
Is that one of those BKT brand 3 rib tyres?
I tried turning some and the finish was poor. I may try again with a better choice of HSS cutter.Does it turn like tufnol (i.e. cotton/cellulose fibre impregnated) or does it turn like plastic?
I have a piece of bar similar colour but that's definitely a grade of tufnol.
Bear in mind there are dozens of grades of tufnol, CARP being the most common but also whale and others.
Tyre machine will make it a lot easier. As an 18 year old, I remember changing tyres using 2 bits of angle iron and a sledge hammer to break the bead. But that's the most important bit!

"Problem solved", yes for a few months. But your sanding off the UV protection layer restoring them, so you need to spray a layer of 2k clearcoat or something over the top post-resto to keep them clear for a decent length of time again. For years we had headlights that worked effectively, then these crappy cheap short lived plastic things arrived. The joist hangers should come in handy for my wife’s latest project.View attachment 492457
depending on the thread i may be interested in purchasing a few gearknobs , if they become availablewon a nice Gedore cabinet in bay of evil for the new workshop. Ended up buying the other one they had, so now have one for the lathe and one for mill!
So happens the place is closing down so selling off everything once jobs completed. So I came away with some cracking bargains.
Also two egg trays of gearknobs lol (think they did batchwork for richbrook back in the day) no idea how I’m going to get rid of them or use them but cool.
check the rubber on the pulleys, as it can break down.Nice old Whitehead belt and disc sander, will need to run through the electrics for a check and get a few belts. Lovely old bit of kit, chap had some beautiful old Wadkins still in daily use That weren't for sale.
Might end up making a stepped pulley to allow for slowing it down at some point. Will run it off the converter otherwise would vfd it.
