I suppose you're right. My notion of price of this kind of stuff is probably influenced by the fact that I fished the three Record No. 23 quick release vices that I use on the workbenches here out of a skip in West London about ten years ago.You were trying to haggle £25 down on a Record no 4???That's a steal of a price I pay around £100 for a no 4 here in NI. Yes that's for ones which were also stored in a hedge
It just always amazes me what members here want to pay for stuff.
Yes, the jaws appear to be nicely finished guage plate or similar. All the vices in my workshop have smooth jaws. I still have the statement from when I was a teenager 'vice jaw blemishes on a workpiece are the trademark of a second rate fitter' ringing in my ears decades later.

Sold off a load of my old stuff on eBay recently...old tools just don't fetch much these days.
Shocking really as I was also selling off a load of (what I considered) junk plastic model kits which fetched a good price!
All in all a very odd experience...seemed like some stuff just couldn't give it away!

I was shooting flies and wasps with a pinch of dry sand in my catapult when i was a kid. A cheaper option perhaps. Very effective too i might add.

In niche applications like yours they're genius (although in any cases where a ring spanner fits, now supplanted by ratchet spanners)...
In more general use "speed" actually refers to how much faster they can round off a stick fastener over the previous state of the art for such tasks, an adjustable.

Selling stuff is weird. I've tried selling brand new shoes and got no interest at all (apart from someone asking me if I have them in a different size), but got just over £20 for a pack of three new TDK blank cassettes.

No, it's boiled Linseed oil, takes a long time to dry, but in my experience prevents condensation related surface rust in a shed type situation.

In my defense I filled about 10 skips so didn't have a huge amount of time!

To day I popped to my local recycling centre and came with more than I bargained for, I already own a fobco star floor standing drill but couldn't leave this atlas drill their and the grinder is a lot better than the one I already have, just to remove the old steel cable and give it try

Good catch! These were originally advertised as light milling machines, due to the bearings they use on the quill!.

I stopped by to se a friend today, and noted how cool it was inside. He had bought a portable Air Conditioner from Lidl about a week ago. It impressed me enough to drive over to Tylorstown on the chance there was one left. Surprisingly there were six, hidden behind other pallets of stuff. 
Anyway, as it only gets hot for a couple of weeks or so here in the UK, I couldn't see the need to spend thousand's for a permanent installation in our small home. Price was £159.oo ( rated at 7000 BTU )

Price was £159.oo ( rated at 7000 BTU )About 20 scba air tanks from auction (surprisingly half were full so promptly discharged before getting back on the motorway, didn't want to end up recreating a jihad car ) which also included some vintage pre-halon scary fire extinguishers that I have absolutely no idea what to do with for either, don't suppose anyone here likes to collect these peculiar historical devices or wants some steel tanks? They make lovely bells when smacked against your knees
